Tensions had been getting worse for years.  As the nation expanded, the fight over slavery in the new states caused this growing issue to flare up into a full-blown inferno.  There was no turning back, and it was up to each President to see what they could do.  They each tried to make peace and avert hostility, but in reality, they just kicked the problem down to the next guy.  6 different Presidents, 1 disastrous issue that resulted in Civil War, on this episode of American POTUS!
