On August 23rd 1973, Jan Erik Olsson broke into a Kreditbanken branch in Stockholm Sweden. A complete media frenzy broke out once shots were fired and Jan took 3 hostages inside the bank. He demanded millions of kroner, a get away car, and to have his friend who was still in prison, be brought to the bank to assist him. All at once, and to the world's surprise, the hostages turned on police, siding with their captors instead. It was the first incident of the psychological phenomenon we all now know as Stockholm Syndrome!
