The 84-year-old East Cannington man, Emilio Lombardi, who was attacked at his own home on August 16 has passed away in hospital.

Mr Lombardi was placed in an induced coma after the "cowardly, disgusting and appalling act", as described by WA Police. 

Nine News reporter Kamin Gock had been in contact with Mr Lombardi's family and was told he was making an improvement and had been taken out of ICU. 

But has now sadly passed away.

There is a growing concern about the long term effects of head knocks in sports, but West Coast Eagle forward Josh Kennedy says the AFL is better educated these days. 

Kennedy is banned from playing in tonight's match against Essendon because he suffered concussion symptoms after a knock to the head in last Thursday night's loss against Richmond. 

"A lot of guys do get a fair few knocks and it is a concerning thing in sport," Kennedy told 6PR Breakfast. 

"The game's changed a fair bit in terms of the protocols that go through with concussion now to help prevent things like that."

"Like tonight, I'm not allowed to play because of the 6-7 day rule with concussion, it's put in place so you do have time to heal and time to get back up and get your brain settled and right before you do go back into a contact situation."

From midnight tonight West Australian road users will face a $1,000 fine and four demerit points for using their mobile phone behind the wheel.

But there are some exemptions for a simple touch; Road Safety Council Chairman, Iain Cameron explained some of the rules surrounding the new infringements.  

"If a phone is mounted, you can touch the phone to start and end a call," he told 6PR Breakfast.

Former Perth Orioles player and current West Coast Fever coach, Stacey Marinkovich has been named the national netball coach. 

Marinkovich took the Fever to their first finals appearance in her first year of coaching back in 2015, now Netball Australia are hoping she has the same success as Head Coach of the Australian Diamonds. 

"You don't take, or accept, a position like this without understanding the full responsibility that you're about to embark on; there's no second place in netball, it's always about the win," Marinkovich told 6PR Breakfast.
