  • The bizarre pet shortage facing Perth
    6PR Breakfast received a tip to say there is a guinea pig shortage facing Perth, the boys put their detective hats on to follow this lead. 
    One listener was hoping to find a companion to pass the time while social distancing measures are in place, however could not find a guinea pig in Perth. 
    Narrogin guinea pig breeder Ken Hart told Basil and Millsy the adorable pets were in high demand but travel restrictions meant he couldn't deliver any to Perth. 
    "We are getting lots of inquiries, so I am gathering there is a shortage," he said
    "We are breeding plenty, but we can't get to Perth to get them to people." 
    Mr Hart has been breeding guinea pigs for 50 years. 
    "I started doing when I was just a kid and I never grew up," he said.
    "They are really easy to manage and their by-product is great for the garden."

    On Thursday he told Millsy and Bas about the inspiring UK war veteran Captain Tom Moore.
    Captain Moore is 99 years old and decided for before his 100th Birthday he would walk laps of his front yard hoping to raise $1000 for coronavirus support.
    After his efforts were shared around the globe he has now raised more than $16million.

  • Light show for front line workers causes UFO scare
    A light show in support of front line workers put on a by a Perth lighting company sparked a UFO scare last night. 
    The display was organised by Frontier Lighting and depicted a blue love heart, but while it was underway it sparked a number of UFO reports.
    Frontier Lighting designer Jared Hawke says the show was a joint initiative from lighting companies across Australia to thank front line workers for their efforts during the coronavirus crisis.

    The owner of a South Perth pub is using the job keeper payment to hire back his bar staff as delivery drivers and cut out the middleman in UberEats. 
    Geoffrey Ogden, owner of the Windsor Hotel, has kept his business running by offering takeaway meals and keeping as many of his staff working by using the Federal Government money to change their roles.
    The hospitality veteran says he's also hoping to change their on site brewery into a distillery to produce hand sanitiser.

    Due to visitor restrictions and lock-downs across aged-care facilities, Baptistcare want their residents to stay connected through technology but their asking for tech-savvy volunteers to help. 
    "All we need is people who have got some spare time, and lets face it we all have more time now days, spend half an hour, twice a week on Skype, Zoom, or Facetime talking with, reading to, chatting, getting to know a couple of residents in an aged care service," Russell Bricknell, Baptistcare CEO, told 6PR Breakfast.

    Virgin Australia is fighting to stay afloat and critics say it shouldn't be up to the Federal Government to bailout the airline. 
    But if Virgin disappears from our skies it will increase costs for customers and thousands of local pilots could lose their jobs according to the Vice President of Australian Federation of Air Pilots. 
    "It's about pilot jobs in Australia. That's what we're really concerned about at the Federation; we represent 5,500 pilots, a lot of those guys are stood down right now," Captain George Kailis told 6PR Breakfast. 
    "What we want to see coming out the other side of this is a really competitive airline system... keep the airfares competitive and jobs for Australian pilots."
