An investigation is underway at a south Charlotte gas station after a shooting involving officers early Tuesday morning, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.
Officers were investigating the scene at the QuikTrip gas station on South Boulevard, near East Arrowood Road, just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. CMPD said officers made multiple attempts to stop a vehicle before the driver ultimately pulled over. The person got out of the vehicle, and officers "perceived an imminent deadly threat." At least one officer fired at the person, shooting them. The person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

A death investigation is underway after a body was found in southwest Charlotte on Thursday morning, police said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the victim was found along Nations Ford Road a little after 9 a.m. CMPD confirmed officers discovered an unresponsive person in the area of Nations Ford Elementary School. The victim was taken to the hospital by Medic and pronounced dead.
CMPD hasn't released any further details about the case and it's unclear if detectives are looking for any suspects. A CMS spokesperson said no schools were placed on lockdown due to the investigation and forwarded all inquiries about the incident to CMPD.
WCNC Charlotte's crew at the scene saw police tape surrounding a playground near the school. A CMS spokesperson said the playground isn't part of the Nations Ford Elementary campus. Students don't use the playground for recess.

A South Carolina judge has issued a stay in a lawsuit involving Silfab Solar's controversial manufacturing plant in Fort Mill, pending the resolution of a separate case between the company and local zoning officials.
The Jan. 29 ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by the Citizens Alliance for Government Integrity and Fort Mill residents against Silfab. The plaintiffs argue the development poses environmental and safety risks to nearby properties and schools.
The case has drawn increased scrutiny after York County officials approved a permit for the Canada-based solar panel manufacturer, despite initially denying it. Residents say the approval came without public notice.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials are reassuring families about students' educational rights amid concerns about potential immigration enforcement, emphasizing that all students will continue to receive educational services regardless of immigration status.
In a statement released Monday by the CMS Board of Education, the district stressed its commitment to student safety and education, citing the landmark 1982 Supreme Court case Plyler v. Doe, which established that immigrant students, including those who are undocumented, have a constitutional right to free public education.

There were no survivors after a collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport near Washington, D.C. last week. Dozens of local aircrew members gathered Sunday night at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport overlook to honor the 67 lives lost to the mid-air collision — especially those on the Charlotte-based flight crew.
"Everybody saw a plane crash, but we saw that we lost family," one man shared at the vigil. "It was hard to believe because if you know Ian, you know you can hear him from a mile away, and as we're gathered here, I want us to remember those great memories. Because that’s all we have."
He was referring to Ian Epstein, one of the flight attendants on board American Airlines flight 5342. Multiple speakers shared memories of him, as well as flight attendant Danaisa Elder and pilots Sam Lilley and Jonathan Campos.
While many stories focused on the good memories, the evening was somber.
"This is not just a job we show up and get a paycheck," another woman shared. "The reality is they never boarded that flight expecting to not land.”
