Dr. Kevin Mailo welcomes Dr. FIREfly, an early-career physician, to the show to talk about her creative journey and why creativity matters. Dr. FIREfly has a financial blog she started in residency, and that, paired with her creative writing group and creative writing journey, is really what gave her an identity outside of medicine, with additional dreams to pursue. Dr. FIREfly and Kevin discuss how to make time for creative outlets and the value they add to our lives. 

Something Dr. FIREfly addresses is learning to manage finances effectively early on, because, as she says, “having financial stability really gives more brain space to do other things and think about other things”. Carving out an intentional creative space in her life allows her the freedom to be more than a physician and not tie her identity to a single career. She and Kevin discuss the need for identity outside of work, how to start fanning the flames of a creative interest, and why a solid grounding in financial literacy is the necessary ingredient for scaling back work when the creativity starts to flow.
