Monkey Marc and Kim Williamson spoke with the Big Brekky Show about the Crown and Country singing project from the remote central desert community of Lajamanu.  At the heart of Crown and Country is the voice of the prolific Warlpiri philosopher, teacher and artist, Wanta Jampijinpa Pawu-Kurlpurlurnu and he joins his father Jerry Jangala Patrick OAM, one of the most important Warlpiri songmen alive today, whose traditional singing at ~90 years grounds the work in Warlpiri ceremonial song. 

Alongside contemporary compositions by Marc ‘Monkey’ Peckham, Crown and Country translates their deep intergenerational cultural knowledge into immersive music and film, where Wanta Jampijinpa invites you into a desert journey through the Warlpiri universe to gain a deeper understanding of belonging, connection, and responsibility to Country.

Are you a drummer? Does your school need an upgrade to its percussion studio? Yamaha Music Australia has announced its 2025 Great Start Grant program, which supports school music programs across the country with four $10,000 grants.

The aim of the grant is to provide and upgrade the tools schools need to inspire young musicians and create a vibrant culture of music education. This year, Yamaha is focusing on the drum and percussion studio, and each winning school will receive a tailored selection of Yamaha drum and percussion instruments.

Professor Rob McWilliams, Education Outreach Clinician, chats with The Big Brekky team about the 5 year running program.

Singer-songwriter Maddy Simioni originally hails from Melbourne, but now calls Mparntwe home.  

Known for Bullet Train, a regular number on the Big Brekky Show, Maddy combines powerhouse vocals with compelling personal and political lyrics, and makes folky pop with undertones of hip-hop/rap. Her latest song Faded, which she plays here live, will be released on all platforms on International Women’s Day, 8th March.
