The Warlpiri Project, a repatriation program created and led by the Warlpiri community to reconnect Warlpiri people with their cultural heritage that has been displaced across museums, institutions and personal collections around the world, is for the first time receiving items to be repatriated to Yuendumu from overseas. A collection of cultural objects have been returned to The Warlpiri Project by a family living in Germany. 

Jaime Hampton, Warlpiri Repatriation Officer at SA Museum, has been researching catalogues, with the support of the State Library of SA and AITSIS, to find Warlpiri collections around the Australia and the world. Now in its fifth year of travelling the country and working to bring artefacts home to Warlpiri country, The Warlpiri Project has searched a collection of more than 1 million items related to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.

Renowned European violinist, Emma Roijackers, returns to Alice Springs for a family visit after a busy European schedule. Emma, a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral player, will feature at Corrugations #15 on 2 February. Corrugations is monthly series hosted by Emma's father, local musician Jon Rose, and features new and experimental music with an emphasis on sustainability and ecology. Tune in to hear Emma play live on The Big Brekky.

Local Councillor and Congress' Ingkintja Men's Clinic Manager Michael Liddle visited the Big Brekky Show to raise awareness of the problem of domestic violence. On Tuesday 10 December, International Human Rights Day, local men are going to meet at the Courthouse Lawns and will march to meet on the Flynn Church Lawns with the women who have gathered there. There will be a range of male speakers talking from the heart. It ends the 16 Days of Activism against gendered violence.

Jimmy Cocking and Rodney Angelo dropped into the Big Brekky Show with some sad news - the team have made the difficult decision to cancel Wide Open Space in 2025. Only half of their budgeted grants came through and the strain on the dedicated volunteers and general financial risk is too great.

'We don’t know what the future holds for WOS but if it is to continue then it will need energy and guidance from people across the Alice Spring and WOS community.  

We are keen to work with those who are willing and able to help transition WOS to a new structure that can leverage more sustainable funding. So, if you want to make WOS 2026 happen then get in contact.'

A lot of people don’t realise that the Cyclone didn’t just impact Top Enders, the after effects were felt right across the NT with major reception centre for cyclone refugees set up in Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. This is the subject of a new book ‘‘Cyclone Tracy - They Gave, They Did What They Could & Then More’ launching at the Tennant Creek Christmas Community Lawn Sale on Saturday and the book’s author, Roddy Calvert, joins us live on the Big Brekky Program from our Tennant Creek studio.

In Alice Springs there is a community group called South of the Gap who is holding an event on the 5th of Dec from 5:30pm on the Courthouse lawns. They’re against the building of the National Indigenous Art Gallery on its present site at Anzac Oval.  Come join in the conversation, watch some archival films and a BBQ.
