In the Big Brekky Show today we had the talented Tumi Radebe and Jami Ashenden - the Jumiz! They were at the studio to tell us about Alice Beat, on at Araluen this Thursday 2 November. They shared some of their original songs, Damsel in Distress accompanied and supported by Gleny Rae, and In the Rain, which earned them the People's Choice Award at this year's Battle of the Bands.

Jamie Lawson from Road Boss Rally tells the big Brekky about upcoming rallies across the country, which raise money for various charities. Also, Lawson will be doing the ring announcing for the Arrernte Community Boxing Academy event Punch Up In The Plaza this coming Saturday night. Road Boss Rally are a sponsor of the Arrernte Community Boxing Academy.

Punch Up In The Plaza will be held in the Alice Plaza on Saturday 28th October, with gates opening from 4pm. The event will feature Arrernte Boxing King "The Reaper" Keiffen Mardi as Main Event. Tickets are on sale via Arrernte Boxing here.

The recent extended smoke haze over Mparntwe has been alarming, and demonstrates an unprecedented fire season. Adrian Tomlinson, the CEO of Arid Lands Environment Centre chats to the Big Brekky about the ecological issues we face with invasive Buffel Grass' interaction with fire, especially following three years of higher rainfall during the previous years' La Niña events. There are currently discussions around declaring Buffel as a weed, with ALEC calling for a Class A or B Weed Declaration across all areas where Buffel exists (pastoral, indigenous & areas around town). The aim being to stop its growth and spread, and to have a Buffel Grass Managemtn Plan which does not currently exist.

ALEC are hosting a Buffel Grass Weed Declaration Information Night with legal experts, policy makers and weed management practitioners, to discuss and answer questions about the Weed Declaration proposal. The event is free, and at the Roastery on Thursday 9th of November, 6pm, all welcome.

Country musician Jemma Beech joins the Big Brekky and chats about her new single. Hailing from Hunter Valley, NSW, she has had a brief hiatus from the country music scene to regroup and redefine her path, and is now back in the studio ready for the next chapter of her career. Her new single is called 'If I Can’t Wear Boots', and is an unapologetic girl power anthem. It was written with 2022 Star Maker Max Jackson and produced with Jake Davey Studios.
