91. Utah’s Manufacturing Industry

Listen Later

This episode features conversations with Lance Soffe, Go Utah’s Targeted Industries director, Tulinda Larsen, the executive director of the Utah Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Initiative, Win Jeanfreau, executive director of iMpact Utah, and podcast host Pete Codella, Go Utah’s communications director. This podcast also includes valuable information about Go Utah’s newly-formed State Small Business Credit Initiative program.

In this Business Elevated episode, listen as Soffe provides details about the office’s new Utah Manufacturing Modernization Grant that incentivizes modernizing, establishing, relocating, retaining, or developing manufacturing in the state. The $10 million grant authorized by the Utah Legislature aims to modernize Utah companies’ manufacturing, increase supply chain resilience, and lessen American dependence on foreign manufacturing. He also discusses the qualifications and requirements companies must meet.

Secondly, Larsen gives specifics about UAMMI, a public-private nonprofit partnership that works to elevate the work of Utah-based companies. Codella asks her such questions as what the industry looks like in Utah, which is comprised of both household names and smaller businesses, funding resources, the industry’s impact in rural Utah, and how the advanced materials and manufacturing industry collaborates.

Thirdly, Jeanfreau discusses iMpact Utah and the organization’s purpose, services, and operational excellence goals. He also discusses the eclectic group members’ talents and resources, what sets Utah apart from other states, details about the organization’s automation grant program and its funding availability, the types of businesses that work with the organization, and more.

Lastly, Codella shares information about the federal State Small Business Credit Initiative and Go Utah’s role in expanding access to capital, developing opportunities in underserved communities, and creating new jobs that will help increase economic opportunity in Utah. The program will make loans available to Utah small businesses through enrolled lenders in the coming months.
