The Coast Music Museum for July 13th 2018

1985 - On July 13th 1985, The Live Aid concerts to raise money for hunger efforts in Africa, took place in London and Philadelphia. It featured top acts of the day, including The Beach Boys, Tina Turner, Elton John, Queen and Bob Dylan.

1996 - The new world record for longest jam session ever played was set July 13th 1996, when over 2,000 guitar players played "Heartbreak Hotel" for 75 minutes straight, in Nashville's Riverfront Park.

2008 - Joan Jett of Runaways fame, made an appearance on "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." She played a talk show host who met an untimely demise, on this day in July 2008.

Artifact of the day: 1972 - On July 13th 1972, The Rolling Stones played Cobo Hall in Detroit, in the first of a two night engagement.

1988 - Arriving on July 12th of 1989, Michael Jackson performed in the U.K for his first solo tour. He played eight shows to a total of 794,000 fans.

1995 - July 12th of 1995, women's R and B and hip-hop legends, TLC, hold down No.1 for 6 weeks in a row on the Billboard charts with their song "Waterfalls."

2000 - A sculpture of John Lennon is unveiled in London, to honor his memory on this day in July, 2000. It featured a handgun with an unusable, knotted barrel to represent Lennon's message of peace throughout his life.

Artifact of the day: July 12th 1962, The Rolling Stones hit the stage for the first time at the Marquee Club in London. This marked the group's first public performance.

1987 - Women's rock band, Heart started a three week run on the U.S Singles chart at No.1 on this day in July, 1987, with their song "Alone."

1995 - On July 11th of 1995, George Michael signed a two album deal between Dreamworks in the U.S and Virgin in the U.K. Sony Records was paid $40 Million to release him as part of the dual deal.

2009 - July 11th 2009, Black Eyed Peas spent an impressive 12 weeks at No.1 with "Boom, Boom, Pow", before replacing it with another of their own "I Gotta Feeling."

Artifact of the day: 1975 - Happy Birthday Lil' Kim! The iconic singer and dancer was born, Kimberly Jones, on this day in July, 1975.

1989 - On July 10th 1989, The Monkee's secure a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1998 - Brandy and Monica hold down their 8th week at No.1 with their ridiculously catchy bop. "The Boy is Mine" on July 10th of 1998.

2000 - Coldplay released their debut album "Parachutes" on this day in July 2000. It went on to win a Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2002.

Artifact of the day: 1964 - The Beatles released their third album "A Hard Day's Night" on this day in July, 1964. It became known as the first album entirely composed by "Lennon and McCartney."
