The Coast Music Museum for July 9th 2018

1983 - With their song "Every Breath You Take" The Police hit off an eight week run at No.1 on the U.S singles chart, on this day in 1983.

1995 - On July 9th 1995, The Grateful Dead give their final performance at Soldier Field in Chicago, with front man Jerry Garcia. He went on to die only a month later of a heart attack.

2001 - In July of 2001, The Backstreet Boys announced a break in their Black and Blue tour, so that member A.J McLean could enter rehab for his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Fortunately, they were able to reunite not long after.

Artifact of the day: 1975 - Happy Birthday Jack White! Lead member of The White Stripes, born on this day in Detroit, MI.

The Coast Music Museum for July 6th 2018

1985 - On July 6th 1985, Phil Collin's song "Sussudio", written about a girl with a unique name, earned N0.1 on the U.S charts.

1994 - The film "Forest Gump" hit theaters on July 6th 1994 and became a top grossing film for the year. The movie featured a popular soundtrack with retro songs from The Doors, Elvis Presley and Three Dog Night.

2016 - With seven consecutive weeks at No.1 for the U.S Song and Album charts, Drake equaled the record established by Michael Jackson in 1983.

Artifact of the day: July 6th 1957, Paul McCartney and John Lennon cross paths for the first time at a concert in Liverpool. Their next meeting would lead to Lennon asking McCartney to join his band and the rest is history.

1986 - On July 5th 1986, Janet Jackson hit a two week streak at No. 1 with her album "Control."

1995 - More than 4,000 Deadheads were attending a Grateful Dead concert in St.Louis, when a wooden deck collapsed and injured more than 100 fans. Fortunately none were seriously injured in the July 5th 1995 incident.

2003 - Johnny Cash made his last public appearance during a live performance at Carter Ranch on this day in 2003. He made a dedication to his late wife, June Carter before singing "Ring of Fire" and went on to pass away on Sept. 12th of the same year.

Artifact of the day: 1954 - Elvis Presley holds his inaugural recording session at Sun Records in Memphis. The session results in the song "That's Alright Mama."

1988 - Micheal Jackson dominated the U.S music charts and claimed the title of first artist to have five number one singles from the same album.

1999 - Proudly born and raised in the Bronx in 1969, Jennifer Lopez releases her debut album titled "On The 6."

2007 - A memorial concert for Diana, Princess of Wales, is held at the freshly built Wembley Stadium in London. Performances include Elton John, Kanye West and Duran Duran.

Artifact of the day: 1979 - Sony revolutionized the personal music market by releasing the first portable audio cassette player, named the Walkman.
