The Montreal podcast that is doing its best not to get Covid-19 is back! Jon was off in last episode due to illness that was not Covid-19 but felt like it, Scott conveniently timed contracting the virus with the off-week for podcasting and Keith is currently living in his home office while he tries not to catch Covid from his wife! Happy 2nd Pandemic-versary everyone!
So yeah, after two years of recording remotely and always talking about the pandemic one of us finally gets to experience it and share their experience with you, the loyal listener.
Keith watched “The Batman” and navigates his way through a mostly spoiler-free appraisal of the latest big screen Caped Crusader, Jono is 150 hours into the latest epic from From Software Elden Ring and because Keith enjoyed Spiderman No Way Home so much he played through the Spiderman game on PS4.
Scott talks about his latest mobile obsession a cool 1st person shooter phone game called “Frag” and Keith once again recommends Ridley Scott and Aaron Guzikowski’s Raised by Wolves which just completed its second season.
Finally, since we recorded this on NHL Trade Deadline Day we talk a little about the moves made by our beleaguered but beloved Montreal Canadiens.
Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Garbage Time is a topic that Jon had researched for the main episode but forgot to mention it since he was having so much fun recording the main deal. Of course we are talking about Ernest Shackleton’s failed expedition to Antarctica, listen now by subscribing on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.

FINALLY! Quebec wrestling historian, commentator and podcaster Pat Laprade returns! Long time listeners of Go Plug Yourself are no doubt extremely familiar with Pat Laprade. We had him on as a guest a few times on the main show and so much fun with him we actually created whole other podcast called “Pat on the Mat” which was a (more or less) monthly take on the world of pro-wrestling.
So yes, this is a lot more of a Pat on the Mat episode than it is a Go Plug Yourself episode (we don’t even do 5 Questions!) but it is what it is and what it is is podcasting greatness.
Also, we returned to recording at Grumpy’s! We’re playing all the hits baby!
If you like what Pat Laprade has to say, be sure to check out any (or all!) of the books he’s written about the squared circle:
Sisterhood of the Squared Circle: The History and Rise of Women’s Wrestling
Mad Dog: The Maurice Vachon Story
Mad Dogs, Midgets and Screw Jobs: The Untold Story of How Montreal Shaped the World of Wrestling
Pat Laprade is also the voice of Monday Night Raw each week on TVA Sports, be sure to keep tabs on Pat’s page over at TVA Sports to keep track of all of his French language coverage of wrestling and hockey. Pat also co-hosts a French-language wrestling podcast called Les Anti-pods de la Lutte with Kevin Raphaël.
Oh and by the way, if you’re a fan of our hosts AND a fan of pro-wrestling then have I got the event for you: It’s the WrestleMania Watch Party Weekend at Champs right here in Montreal!
As always, a big thank you to the providers of our theme song: Aural Turpitude!

It’s probably for the best that we spend most of this episode talking about Spiderman and AEW Revolution because no matter how strong our opinions might be about the Russian invasion of Ukraine we are almost certainly among the worst people to listen to about this particular ongoing tragedy.
I have been doing mental gymnastics to not kind of go into a spiral about the impending possibility of World War 3. How could I possibly watch movies and wrestling and do escape rooms while we teeter on the edge of a global armed conflict?
Well, I try to tell myself that whether I watch Batman tonight or not my actions have nearly no impact on the situation. This isn’t like the pandemic where I maybe have people in my circle who may benefit from honest and open conversations about science. I don’t know anyone who needs convincing that this is a terrible, terrible thing that Russia is doing.
Of course you can (and should, if your means allow) donate to relief efforts. It can be hard to know where to donate, what charities are reputable and where your money is actually going. Charity Intelligence.ca has published a helpful list of some of the most reputable places to send your money along with guidelines about where these charities focus their efforts.
So yes, we do talk about Ukraine a little bit but then we spend the vast majority of the episode talking about Spiderman and the AEW Revolution Pay Per View. Jon has seen neither of those two things so his absence is barely noticeable.
Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about the worst comic book film adaptations ever made. We use ScreenCrush’s list as our reference. If that sounds fun, check it out over on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.

The Montreal podcast that asks improvisor and storyteller Matt Goldberg: “Given the hard evidence that there is a God, would you have sex with God?” – asked of course by the incomparable Tyler Lemco in episode 249.
As I mention in the show it is absolutely insane to me that Matt Goldberg has never been a guest on this show before. I first met Matt back in college, which some listeners may be able to deduce was about 20 years ago. I’ve known Matt Goldberg for 20 years and have had a podcast for over 10 of those years and only now are we having him on as a guest? Insanity.
No wait, I saved him as a guest until this episode for a reason. I wanted our 250th to be special. Yeah, that’s why we’ve waited so long to do this.
I met Matt through improvisation and you may know him from one of Montreal’s premiere improv troupes “Uncalled For”. Uncalled For ruled the Montreal Improv scene with an iron fist for nearly a decade. Matt’s also a gifted storyteller, and several years ago began to produce Confabulation, a storytelling series (and podcast) here in Montreal and in Victoria. With a focus on true stories, without the help of props or gimmicks Confabulation is one of the most consistently honest and authentic theater going experiences you could ask for.
And it’s back! Confabulation has had a few virtual shows in the past few years but this Friday, March 3rd, marks Confabulation’s return to the Centaur Theater. “Confabulation Presents: Good Date, Bad Date” get your tickets here.

Montreal’s favorite geek and pop culture podcast featuring 3 white dudes returns with so much trucker talk this episode should have been recorded on CB radio.
Thankfully the trucker thing seems to be mostly petering out, although I do wonder if we will ever find out just how much of the whole fiasco was orchestrated and funded by our freedom fighting neighbours to the South.
Speaking of fighting for freedom (yooooooo-Joe!), we give you our patented half-informed take on the sparks that might one day be referred to as “The Start of World War 3” as Russia actively invades Ukraine. If you’re wondering why you’re a little “off” these days it might be that we are fully 2 years into a global pandemic AND on the eve of a major armed conflict at the same time.
Just a guess.
We’ve all watched Cowboy Bebop on Netflix now so this is probably the last episode you’ll have to hear us talk about the travesty of its cancellation. If a few thousand more people sign the (probably pointless) petition to save the show over on Change.Org it will be one of the most signed petitions ever.
Petitions!
Scott likes Vox Machina a lot more than Keith does, I guess Jon will be the tie-breaker. Meanwhile, Boba Fett is over and Robert Rodriguez should have been allowed to have more fun. Speeder Vespas forever.
We also get to find out Jon’s final ranking in the Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup v.028 Tournament and he excitedly tells the tale of something involving ziggurats and orbs. .
This week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about Superbowl commercials. We don’t run through all of them don’t worry, instead we go over all the movie and television commercials that aired during “the big game” so that’s kind of fun. Check it out over on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.

Montreal’s favorite arts, entertainment and comedy podcast is back and asks Tyler Lemco: If you could go back in time and tell yourself to purposefully make a mistake, what would it be? That question was asked by Esteban Vargas back in episode 248.
Tyler Lemco is a Montreal icon.
Tyler Lemco is a Montreal icon in Mexico.
Tyler is down in Mexico for the next little while since he heard that a bunch of truckers would be blasting their horns here in Canada. He joins Chris Venditto and I to talk about food, flirting without a common language, Lemco Day and whether or not he would be safer in unfamiliar parts of the world with or without his brother.
Tyler is pretty much a kind of comedy renaissance man, performing standup, writing sketches, appearing on talk shows, DJing and starring in content all over the world wide web.
Do yourself a favor and follow the good Doctor Tyler Lemco on Twitter @tlemco and Instagram @tlemco to keep up to date with all of his insights and life lessons.
Enjoy the show!

The Montreal based geek and pop culture podcast that loves driving trucks and playing women’s hockey is back with episode 254. Oh hey, the Olympics are happening.
(For the record, we do neither of those two things).
If I could go on a tangent for a moment here (and despite Jon posting, this is Keith writing) I would like to re-iterate how much fun I have recording these dumb podcasts.
Work has been especially trying for me these last few weeks, so trying in fact that even though it has been less than 48 hours since we recorded this episode, I am struggling to remember what we really talked about. Work has just been draining me of a lot of energy but I remember having a pretty great time recording this thing with Jon and Scott.
Good thing we take notes, eh?
Jon is actively participating in the current Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup v.028 Tournament so you know we got that good-good DCSS content that you crave.
So Jon is playing DCSS which launched in 2006 but is still actively updated even though it looks like it is from the 90s, Keith is playing Return of the Obra Dinn which is a video game from 2018 that looks like it was made in the 80s and Scott is playing Secret of Mana which is actually from 1993.
Video games are cool.
We are from Montreal so we talk about hockey in the form of the Canadian Women’s Olympic team and the NHL Skills Competition and we probably talk more about the dumb trucker convoy than we should.
This week’s episode of Garbage Time is all about sci-fi television, with Scott finally finishing off Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop series and Keith finishing Season 1 of Raised by Wolves. Check it out over on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.

The Montreal comedy and culture podcast returns (for now) to speak with CHOM’s Esteban Vargas! We ask Esteban (among other things): If you had to fight a horse sized duck, or a horse’s weight worth of regular sized ducks, who would you rather fight? This question asked to him WAY back in November by the incomparable Professor H. Shayne Hawke in episode 245.
Esteban has worked at CHOM for a long time, if you go back to his first appearance on the show (holy crap that was 7 years ago) I am pretty sure that he mentions he basically started working there out of high school. However, last year he had the rather amazing task of putting together a string of shows that served as the radio broadcasting career sendoff for the legendary Terry DiMonte. We get a little into that, we talk about greasy spoons in Montreal, staying sane during the pandemic and then figure out how to fight a horse-sized duck.
Whatever might come down the pipeline for Esteban, you can keep tabs on him by following him on Twitter @estebanwaseaten (which is of course a Bill Murray/Steve Zissou reference for all you kids out there in podcast land).
Sit back, relax, and Go Plug Yourself.

The Montreal based geek and pop culture podcast that definitely knows more about The Eternals than we do about football is back with episode 253.
Besides Scott, it is fair to say that the 9to5 Entertainment System is not really “dialed in” to the world of the NFL. That said, the Buffalo Bills being kind of a tragic team is one of those things that seems to have made its way into general pop-culture. They’re not quite the New York Jets but they’ve somehow always been that loser team people from Toronto like.
Once again we talk up the Vice wrestling documentary series “Dark Side of the Ring” and get a little into the specifics of the all-time attendance record for a wrestling event. We’re talking of course about the “Collision in Korea” event in 1995 that took place in Pyongyang, North Korea.
We only scratch the surface of the insanity on the episode, do yourself a favour and check out the episode.
Scott somehow seems to think that Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a pretty good movie, but maybe that’s just because he’s a dad and wants his kid to be a Ghostbuster? I dunno man.
Keith talked about The Eternals again on this podcast, even though he already did that on last week’s episode of Go Plug Yourself. But this time we put it on the list so it’s ok.
This week’s episode of Garbage Time is particularly garbage-y… Scott couldn’t make recording since he had a headache so Keith and Jon talk about Spirit Island and some dead celebrities. They also take a look at that study that measured people’s heart rates while watching horror flicks. Check it out over on our Patreon page at the 9ES Deluxe tier.

We never wanted to win a Golden Globe anyways. It is very difficult to do a show that was established as a vehicle to promote other people’s stuff when there is very little stuff happening due to that pesky global pandemic.
I feel like this time around in the lockdown is hitting everyone a little harder. There are less restaurants doing unique delivery menus, virtual shows and concerts are mostly gone and the constant stream of people going “Live” on Instagram and Facebook has more or less dried up.
It’s hard to keep energy levels up anymore man.
So instead of a proper episode with something to plug we got Walter, Chris and myself online and allowed Chris to berate Seinfeld and Walter to go off on Joss Whedon. Walter is also declaring himself for the Battle Royale to crown the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
We also talk about the Golden Globes and The Eternals.
