You might know Brittany Lyseng from CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud, CBC’S The Debaters and Sirius XM. Brittany’s down-to-earth view of the world is capturing audiences across Canada and has earned her a place at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, JFL Northwest in Vancouver as well as JFL42 in Toronto.
Brittany will be appearing on Comedy Night in Canada which will be available to live stream free as of July 30.
Be sure to also check out Brittany’s podcast “Life Pairings” available wherever you get your podcasts.
Brittany and I talk about Covid, being hockey fans in Canada and of course comedy. I think everyone is a little anxious about the return of live comedy but I think we can all agree that if things are done safely we can get out there and support all the amazing home-grown Canadian talent that has been making us laugh all through the last year and a half!
Enjoy the show!

The Montreal podcast that takes a look back at the original Dark Phoenix Saga in the same breath that they break down the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals.
Scott and Keith lament the loss of the Montreal Canadiens to the Tampa Bay Lightning and whether or not Tampa has the “best fans in the world” – spoilers: they don’t. Sadly, we weren’t aware of the fact that the Bolts dented the freakin’ cup on Monday or surely we would have mentioned that as well.
We also talk about UFC 264 and how Tai Tuivasa loves to drink beer out of shoes. Beer. In Shoe. Beer in shoe. Pro sports in 2021 are crazy people.
Finally, since Jon isn’t around on this one we really dig into The Dark Phoenix Saga. Comics in the late 70s were super weird man. You know what doesn’t always get talked about? How Jean Grey killed billions of people on a whim!
But we talk about it, because we’re a serious podcast talking about the serious topics.

John Hatz is our guest on this week’s Go Plug Yourself podcast and we ask him: What is your favorite chip? A question asked by none other than Mike Carrozza back in episode 235.
This is a podcast nearly 20 years in the making. I met John Hatz let’s say over 10 years ago and have been going to the parties thrown by his promotion company the legendary “I Love Neon” for closer to the last 20 years. But it was probably about 5 years ago that I said “hey John, you should do the podcast at some point.”
The last time I remember talking to him about it was around the holidays in 2019. “Sure, let’s do an episode around spring time when there starts being a lot of different acts coming to town!”
…
We all know how that went.
But now it’s 2021 and vaccines are rolling out and parties are coming back! John Hatz and I Love Neon are brining a pile of shows to Theatre Fairmount, Bar Le Ritz, Newspeak and a host of other venues around the city! Check out iloveneon.ca for their full lineup of upcoming shows.
John talks about going to Vegas, talking to people at 4 in the morning, some of the seedier parts of Montreal and more. And oh hey Walter is back co-hosting this one!
Enjoy the show!

The Montreal podcast that always caters to all of your geeky desires discusses… *checks notes* the Tour de France and the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
I guess we are a sports podcast now so you’re just going to have to deal with it. Happy Canada Day!
Jon returns from his one show break to talk about that lady who single-handedly tried to ruin the Tour de France. Keith ran a session of the Alien RPG from Free League Press and Scott and Keith both watched Loki and share some fan theories about what is going that will almost certainly be obsolete by next week.
We also talk about how weird it is that Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is still actually a ride at Disneyland, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In The Heights” and Keith gets assigned his next movie watching assignment for Best Worst Movie Ever.

Mike Carrozza returns to the Montreal podcast that asks him the question: What did you want to be when you were 5? That question was asked by Alexis Diamond back in episode 233.
Before this whole pandemic thing hit Mike Carrozza had moved to Toronto to make the entire city laugh and fall in love with him. As it did for so many of us Covid-19 derailed that plan just a little bit. So it was that Mike found himself moving back to Montreal for safety and home cooked meals.
Of course, you can’t keep a creative genius, yeah I said it, down. So Mike has been bringing all kinds of online content to the world of the internet on Twitch, Discord, podcasts, blogs and more.
So it will come as no surprise that on this episode we talk about one of Mike’s favorite hobbies: Magic: The Gathering.
I guess most importantly Mike Carrozza will be returning to the stage for the first time next week at the Comedy Nest! That show is sold out though so do yourself a favor and check out Mike’s official website for upcoming dates and make sure you stay up to date with everything and anything that Mike Carrozza is up to check out his Linktree to find his Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, podcasts, albums or just straight up send him money via PayPal.

The Montreal podcast that will forever and always hold Walter J. Lyng near and dear to its heart returns! Just like live shows!
It was 10 years ago in 2011 that Walter first brought Pitching Knife Fight to the Montreal Fringe Festival, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that later that same summer he would decide to start a podcast with me. I’m not sure exactly what the connection is or was but I’m sure it’s there.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of that momentous show Walter is bring “KNIFE FIGHT X” back to the Fringe. Is it a remount of Pitching Knife Fight? No. Is it Night Fight? Also no. It’s something in between and better baby! I mean, probably. I haven’t seen it.
To help Walter properly usher in this feat of one-man showmanship (featuring a number of other people) we need all the hosts, so that means that Lawrence, Inés and Chris are around to host this thing we’re still calling a podcast.
In the spirit of live theater I have not edited out some of the technical difficulties in this episode. Seriously, it’s in the spirit of live theater and not laziness I promise.
Get your tickets to KNIFE FIGHT X right here, right now. The show opens this Saturday June 12!
Enjoy the show!

The Montreal podcast that asks Alexis Diamond: “Where can you find the best ice cream in Montreal?” (asked by Montreal guitarist Pierre-Luc Rioux in episode 232).
Alexis Diamond is bringing a definite air of class to Go Plug Yourself this week. After all, it’s not every day you speak to someone nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award. I suppose it’s not every day that you speak to someone who can honestly refer to themselves as an opera librettist either. Nominated in the category of translation for her work translating Pascal Brullemans’ Amaryllis & Little Witch, a set of two dark fairy tales celebrating strong young female characters.
I’ve always been fascinated by the art of translation. If you want to give yourself just a taste how much translations can vary from one to another, check out the variations of the “proemic verse” column of the translations of Homer’s Illiad and Odyssey to see how different the same original text can be interpreted.
Yeah, it’s that kind of podcast this week.
Inés joins me on this one as we sit down with Alexis Diamond to talk about her work, her nomination for the GGBooks award, xxxx
