Tim Riel joins the Montreal podcast that asks: If you had to give yourself a nickname, what would it be? Asked by none other than Elspeth Wright back in episode 226.
Tim Riel is our guest this week as we creep ever closer to the one year anniversary of the COVID-19 lockdown here in Canada. We continue to put our spotlight on many of the creative ways funny people are finding ways to be funny without actual venues and audiences.
One of those funny people is Tim Riel who has taken to Twitch to play Codenames with a host of funny people. You’ll recognize a lot of familiar faces on the show, Go Plug Yourself favorites like Elspeth Wright, Reese Turner, Joey Elias and our own hosts Lawrence Corber and Chris Venditto have popped up too. Of course there are plenty of other faces you might not recognize but are also definitely very funny.
If you’re not familiar with Codenames it a great game that has quickly become one of the most popular party games for Sarah and I back in the days when you could still have parties. Thankfully it’s also extremely easy to play online which Tim and his rotating cast take full advantage of.
You can head over to Twitch.tv/tim_riel every Monday and Thursday at 8 pm Eastern Time to catch Codenames Live or check out the channel to watch replays of previous shows.
As always, a big thank you to the providers of our theme song: Aural Turpitude!
Chris Venditto is another funny person in Montreal who you can see all over the place and if you don’t want to miss him take the stage you should follow him on all the socials. He’s @chrisvenditto on Twitter and Instagram so you should follow him on those two things. He also produces shows with the guys at Perfect Bite Productions who you should also follow on Instagram and on Facebook.
Keith does all sorts of things here on 9to5.cc, he works with the other founders on 9to5 (illustrated), co-hosts our two podcasts: The 9to5 Entertainment System and Go Plug Yourself and sometimes blogs here as The Perspicacious Geek.

Your favorite nerd podcast from Montreal is Alive and kicking and we’re back One More Time.
Texas ran out of power but hopefully the power grid comes back Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Since Television Rules the Nation we also talk about the latest episode of WandaVision and what it might mean for the MCU and you would need to go Around the World to find a movie worse than Glenn Danzig’s Verotika. Scott shows some Digital Love for that Fleetwood Mac skateboarding Tic Tok guy.
Oh, and there is no more Daft Punk, it’s the End of the Line for the dynamic duo of French electronica.
Enjoy the show,

Elspeth Wright (comedian and host of “Battle of Wits”) joins the Montreal podcast that asks: If the week was 10 days long, would you still only house clean once a week? That question asked by Christian and Matthew from Scorpion Masqué in Episode 225.
Back when the pandemic hit, Elspeth Wright was hosting her own comedy gameshow at The Diving Bell Social Club called “Battle of Wits”. When it became more or less illegal to have shows in front of an audience anymore it seemed like a live gameshow would be a good fit to transition into an online gameshow. And so, “Battle of Wits” went online!
With new episodes on Fridays (for now), Elspeth has played host to the likes of Chris Sandiford, David Pryde, Brad MacDonald, Todd Graham and more. Go Plug Yourself co-hosts pop up every now and then (you can find episodes with Inés, Lawrence and Walter over on Elspeth’s YouTube Channel) as well. This week’s episode (premiering tomorrow!) features Ben Sosa Wright and Tranna Wintour!
Obviously you should do yourself a favor and subscribe on Youtube and follow @battleofwits on Instagram.
And hey, while you’re at it, why don’t you subscribe to Go Plug Yourself on whatever platform you listen to podcasts on, that would be swell.
As always, a big thank you to the providers of our theme song: Aural Turpitude!
Lawrence Corber also produces some shows you may have heard of (you should probably check out the next Healthy Living show when you get a chance) and if you’re close with him you can call him Lully. The other way to call him “Lully” is to follow him on his socials. @Lully514 on Instagram.

The Montreal podcast that asks board game makers Christian & Matthew from Scorpion Masqué: What is the best and worst vegetable? Asked by Vance Gillis in Episode 224.
Christian Lemay and Matthew Legault join us from Scorpion Masqué this week to talk about something that a LOT of people might have been rediscovering during lockdown: board games.
Le Scorpion Masqué is one of the few board game publishers based out of Montreal and it’s been a goal of mine for a while to have local game designers and publishers on our show. Christian and Matthew talk about some of their favorite games currently available from Scorpion Masqué (and elsewhere), board gaming in general and Venditto wows them with his elevator pitch for RISK: Sopranos edition.
Check out their website ScorpionMasqué.com to see their current lineup for game and if any of them sound interesting maybe take a look to see if you have a board game shop in your area to order them from. Many local businesses are doing curbside pickup and some of them even have delivery services as well. As we talk about in this episode, brick and mortar game stores are an important part of the business of board games so these stores need your support.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation with Christian Leman and Matthew Legault from Scorpion Masqué.

It’s a constant struggle to remain open minded when World War 3 is being fought on the battlefield of ideas over the internet. The sophistication of propaganda cannot be understated. The brightest minds of my generation have spent their lives learning how to manipulate us using colored dots and between 1970 and now the world population doubled. There are a lot of minds working on this.

Montreal Improv is alive and well! Well, it is alive, and with the help and support of all of us it will be well. Vance Gillis joins us on the latest episode of Go Plug Yourself to answer the question: “What object in your life brings you a strong memory, good or bad?” (as asked by Kenny Streule in the last episode).
As was mentioned a few times on this very podcast the great city of Montreal had lost Montreal Improv over the course of the pandemic, however, as Vance Gillis will happily inform you when you listen to this episode: the reports of the death of Montreal Improve have been greatly exaggerated.
Thanks to a new owner the Montreal Improv has returned to the city and everyone else on the planet for that matter since they’re online now! Happy day!
While Vance assures us that a physical venue is definitely in the future, right now you should head over to MontrealImprov.com and see what kinds of shows, classes and other content they will be bringing to you right now, on the internet. Courses are available at all levels now and online shows will be starting in the next month.
Also: Inés has returned to co-host this episode!
Don’t call it a comeback!

The Montreal pop-culture podcast that is a day late, but still free, so please don’t complain.
In this episode we get into it about the Proud Boys and are they really that bad? Spoilers: They absolutely are.
I watched Hagazussa: A Heathen’s Curse and read Ernest Cline’s Ready Player Two and both Scott and I watched Wonder Woman 84 so those are all things we end up talking about too.
Boy, this pandemic sure isn’t going anywhere is it? Enjoy the show!

The Montreal podcast that asks Kenny Streule: What was your worst experience with the media? (Asked by Simon and Pascal from Total Crap back in Go Plug Yourself 222).
Back in the beginning of 2020 (which might have occurred either last week or in another lifetime, I’m not sure) Kenny Streule put together a very popular run of a one man show called “Malunderstood” at Montreal’s Mainline Theatre. Fast forward to a little later in the year and all of a sudden the way all of us were consuming live art was very, very different.
So Kenny did what many other artists did: he adapted himself and his art into a format that could be enjoyed from the comforts of self-isolation.
And so Kenny Streule’s Malunderstood: A Virtual Performance Experience was born. A digital adaptation of selected sequences from the live show, “Malunderstood” is a glimpse of Kenny’s childhood and his relationship with his Swiss German grandmother, language and the small town he grew up in.
Head to kennystreule.ca for details on how you can watch Malunderstood in the comfort of your own home for a limited time on a “Pay What You Decide” basis. The show will only be online for as long as the current Montreal lockdown is in effect so make sure you check it out sooner than later.

The annual 9ES Year in Review! It’s time for the greatest tradition of the greatest geek podcast in Montreal!
I promise you that we try to just stick to pop culture nonsense for this one but there is the mandatory bummer news about Covid-19 right off the top.
This year has been an absolute shit show and it occurred to me the other day that I’ve seen Jon all of once since all this started and Scott all of twice (we met up in the safety of the outdoors back in the salad days of summer when Quebec was under 100 new cases a day and outdoor meetups were allowed and safe). The last time we met up in person to record this podcast was on March 9th when we recorded episode 204.
I don’t mention it in the episode since honestly I was just trying to enjoy myself for the last recording of the year but I’m actually really grateful to have started this website and podcast deal because it has given me a wonderful excuse to hang out with two of my best friends every 2 weeks during this whole shitty year and talk about crap we find interesting. That makes me happy.
Anyways, we talk about movies and junk that stood out to us during a year that will always stand out for the rest of our lives.
This is it guys, the end of 2020. Yet another year in review podcast coming right up.
Our intro song is a brand new jam OKU-DA cooked up just for us and you should really check out his SoundCloud.
