Finding the Divine Truth: When 'No' Becomes a 'Yes' to God - A Community Movie Gathering with David Hoffmeister

The central question at the movie gathering was, "Can you show me a movie that truly helps me understand that sometimes, my 'no' can be a 'yes' to God?" 

What does the Bible say, and what have we learned in the Course? The Course teaches us, "Let your yes be yes and your no be no." "Let the Holy Spirit guide your words." "Don't associate 'yes' with God and 'no' with ego because you must always let the Spirit give you your yeses and nos." 

However, if people-pleasing is involved or if there's guilt beneath the 'no' or the 'yes,' it's wrong-minded. We can be sure of this because guilt and innocence don't meet. Even though one is not the opposite of the other, in this world, we believe that guilty people are imprisoned and innocent people are released.

The Constructed Self: Exploring the Concept of Invention in Human Identity - Movie Gathering with David Hoffmeister

We all know that smartphones, iPads, and computers are inventions, but generally, we don't tend to think of ourselves as inventions. If you meet somebody and they say, "Where are you from?" They're not asking, "Where were you manufactured?" Or they're not saying, "Where were you invented?" They're just, "Where were you born?" So we would not quite use that invention word for our human personalities. But if we go a lot deeper, there is a workbook lesson in the Course where Jesus says, "I have invented the world I see." So he's using the invented word. All inventions are constructed. They're like products, but the mind has fallen asleep and forgotten that it believes in separation from God and forgot that it's dreaming. So it doesn't tend to think of itself as a construct. Jesus says, "You think of the body as an end instead of a means."
