February 26, 2026 #107 Susan Collins On Facing Down Stage 4 Bowel Cancer While Parenting Three Children
On Season 9 Episode 7 of A Little Birdie Told Me, host Rebecca Horan talks to Susan Collins. On This final episode in Season 9 Susan charts her cancer battle with Rebecca. Susan, otherwise known as SusansNextChapter on Instagram is a wife and mother of three and has faced the toughest battle of her life. Susan was diagnosed with bowel cancer over a year ago after being misdiagnosed with an appendix problem, she was in pain and knew there was something more sinister going on and like many women advocated for further investigations. Susan was fitted with a stoma bag and has since undergone surgery and chemotherapy, more recently Susan has been told her cancer is at stage 4 and that she will not be having a stoma reversal as she had hoped. At this point in her illness Susan wants to bring to light the difficulties surrounding bowel cancer and the lack of awareness. Susan also shares her gastric bypass journey with Rebecca, where she went from 19 stone to 10 and she talks about her happy family life and incredible support from her husband.

Alana started her career as a dancer in Dublin, after a stint in a college course she didn’t enjoy she moved to London, slowly working her way up to a globally recognised stage show, however, her world changed on a dime when the show got cancelled before the US tour and she got unexpected news from home. Alana returned to Dublin in time to say goodbye to her ill aunt and from there her life changed. Alana then met her now husband Ryan and when an opportunity came about to open a fitness studio in Dublin they went for it. Lisa then moved back to Ireland to build her home and start a family and went on to have four boys, however, this was not without its ups and downs, which she charts hilariously and stylishly on her Instagram page ModernIrishMom. On Season 8 Episode 9 host Rebecca Horan talks to Lisa Shannon. Lisa Shannon is a makeup artist and educator, she is also a product creative and education consultant for Poco Beauty and a mum of two.
Lisa opened up to Rebecca about the tragic death of her mother by suicide and the impact her mother's struggles had on her life, she also spoke about the deep connection she had with her and her mother's love for Lisa and her very hard grief, Lisa subsequently lost her father and spoke about his passing and her relationship with him too. As a mother heading into parenting without her parents Lisa said she was keen to break any generational traumas and be a different parent to her children. Lisa also discussed her love for family life, her start in the beauty industry and her huge successes and how resilience and being realistic has always been a key feature in her life.
