A More Philly Union

A depleted Philadelphia Union travels to Portland to face the Timbers in the hopes of getting their first win of the season.  Back home, Paul, C, and E bestow a nickname upon Quinn Sullivan, brainstorm new AMPU merch, and do some last-minute scheduling for the upcoming Minnesota United game.

Face the ball, the game is on.

In keeping with the season of St. Patrick's Day, the Union are awash in green this week as the Boys in Blue travel to Texas to take on Austin in their first ever MLS match up.  After the Austin game, the Union will continue their Tour de Verde as they travel to Portland to take on the Timbers.  Back at home, Paul, C, and E critique the fashion forwardness of "The Sullivan", workshop some new AMPU catch phrases, and analyze the statistical probabilities of Gazdag's PK-taking ability to the likelihood of a room full of monkeys producing the works of Shakespeare.

It's not easy beating Green.

The Union are inundated this week, both with torrential rains and with giving up goals, as they face off against the Seattle Sounders in an MLS regular season match and against Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.  Meanwhile, trying to keep their collective heads above the proverbial water, Paul, C, and E sing the praises of the unsung heroes of the Seattle game, express concerns about the Union's outlook for the season, and employ movie quotes to chart a path going forward.

Make a little birdhouse in your soul.

The AMPU crew race against the clock this week as they cover three games in record time.  Meanwhile, the Union travel to Kansas City to face Sporting KC and Ale Bedoya shows his quality.  Then the Boys in Blue return to Subaru Park for their first of a two-game series against Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.  And before the clock runs out, Paul, C, and E celebrate their 51st episode, pay honor to Jason Kelce, and arguably make too many Dune references.

In many ways, things don't go as planned this week, somewhat for the Union, but mostly for A More Philly Union.  The Union kick off the regular season by hosting the Chicago Fire on Saturday and then continue their Concacaf Champions Cup run by facing Deportivo on Tuesday.  Meanwhile, the AMPU crew discuss the HUHTU Challenge, get wowed by Semmle, and try (and fail) to celebrate their 50th episode with an extended live coverage of the Union's CCC match against Saprissa.  We'll get it next time.

Best laid plans...

The curtain rises on the Union's 15th MLS season as the Boys in Blue travel to Costa Rica to face off against Saprissa in the first of a two-game series in the Concacaf Champions Cup. Then the Union are back home to welcome the Chicago Fire in the much anticipated home opener.  Meanwhile at the AMPU studios, Paul and E deliver a silver-medal "C-less" performance this week as they discuss Carranza's hattrick, formulate the new Diamond of Death, and officially launch the 2024 Help Us Help The U Challenge.

The start of the new season is a mere ten days away!  The Union are wrapping up their pre-season in Florida with an oddly scheduled match against FC Cincinnati and an upcoming final match against Caleb Porter's New England Revolution.  Meanwhile, back in the frozen tundra that is Pennsylvania, Paul, C, and E recap player news, ponder the soon-to-be-released season 15 Union kit, and discuss the mysterious Blue Card.

ALEJANDRO BEDOYA IS BACK!

The run-up to the regular season continues and while the Union continue their pre-season training and fixtures, the AMPU crew break new ground with their first ever podcast interview.  Paul, C, and E welcome Alyssa Radu from the Philadelphia Union Foundation as she shares all the amazing things that this wonderful organization is doing for Chester, Philly, and beyond.  It's an episode filled with inspiration and motivation, reminding us that even if starting out small, great things are possible.

Even if you only have one match, you can still make an explosion.

The preseason is officially underway both for the Philadelphia Union and the AMPU crew!  The Union experiment with lineups as they scrimmage against CR Flamengo and Austin FC, while the AMPU continue to tweak the podcast as they try out another new preamble.  Also, Paul, C, and E give kudos to Trevor the Intern, suggest a secret Union plot to infiltrate the league with sleeper agents, and workshop a Wes Anderson-MLS collaboration.

Even if things get heavy, we'll all float on...
