A More Philly Union

It's a welcome respite for the AMPU crew as they only have one game to recap this week: the Union v. the Revolution.  But that doesn't keep them for going on for almost an hour in this week's episode as they discuss the Union's up-and-coming players, defective socks, and past political faux pas.

C'mon you Dragons!

Maybe it was the over 5000 feet of elevation change between Colorado's Dick's Sporting Goods Park and Philadelphia's Subaru Park that contributed to the chaos and excitement of this week's games?  Maybe it was poor time management skills that caused the late posting of this week's episode?  Whatever it was, the gang dives into the melee that was the Rapids-Union game and extol the thankless job of the referee after witnessing the Union-DC United match.  There's a deep MLS cut featuring Danny Cepero and Shep Messing, an all-too-expected Ted Lasso reference, as well as a surprise nod to Community.  And like a good Law and Order episode, this week's episode runs just under an hour and features a special guest: Nate!

The Union continue their homeric trek across North America, traveling to the Mt. Doom that is Red Bull Arena to face off against rivals NYRB.  After passing through the fire and ash of New Jersey, the Boys in Blue venture on to the Land of 10,000 Lakes where they battle the Loons of Minnesota in their quest for the Cup of US Open-ness.  Appropriately, the gang discusses the coronation of kings as well as give their episode download charity challenge a noble name.

It's a particularly epic episode this week as we wonder: will the crownless become king?

It's an all-too-familiar story line as the Union revisit LA and try to exorcise the all-too-recent past.  NYRB and the US Open Cup tournament await the road-weary Boys in Blue.  And the gang salvages as much good as they can while they discuss the Triangle of Death and celebrate the pod going international!  Also, a very special guest appearance by Nathan!

The Union welcome Toronto FC to a soaked Subaru Park with the dark clouds of an LAFC rematch looming on the western horizon.  Meanwhile, the gang celebrates a milestone with their first subscriber incentive challenge, and waxes nostalgic with references to Weezer, the Warriors, 8-bit video games and the coolest Decepticons.

There's more than meets the eye in this episode!

Things get pretty exciting when the Union travel south of the border for the second Champions League match against Atlas (you know it's a bit of a bar fight when BOTH coaches get yellow cards).  And the Boys in Blue continue to spread the brotherly love when they travel to Chicago to face off against The Fire.  The gang praises the Union's Young Guns and discuss the efficacy of voodoo dolls.  Also, a very special guest appearance by Noelle!

The Union get a "chili" reception in Cincinnati and concerns are raised about the upcoming Champions League quarterfinal match against Atlas.  Also, the gang savors the opportunity for a rematch against LAFC and gush a little about Kai Kamara.

Happy Dyngus Day!

Sporting Kansas City comes to town, Atlas shrugs, and the gang copes with hail and tornado warnings with some Ikea meatballs.

Things feel a little Dickensian this week as an under-manned Union take on Orlando City and Paul, C, and E only make one Ted Lasso reference.  Also, the gang looks ahead to hosting Sporting Kansas City as well as the Champions League game against Atlas.

Please, sir, we want some more!
