A More Philly Union

Season 2.0 is officially underway for the Union while it's more Summer 2.0 at the AMPU studios, as episodes are being posted behind schedule.  But with the conclusion of many summer sporting events and the reset of the Union's season, the AMPU studios is getting back on schedule...very soon!  But in the meantime, join C and E from last Thursday as the flew "duo", as they give their final thoughts on the final matches of the World Cup, celebrate the game-changing returns of Kai and Quinn, welcome the staggering potential of Neil Pierre, and attempt to keep their surging optimism for the second half of the season in check.

In the immortal words of Dave Leno...

To borrow from Gandalf the Grey: "A podcast is never late, nor is it early, it arrives precisely when it means to."  Well, maybe it's a little late.  All this World Cup excitement (and other summer fun) has put the AMPU studios behind schedule.  But fortunately the AMPU crew has a motto: the sooner we get behind, the sooner we can get caught up.  Join Paul, C, and E this week (well, last week, really) as they discuss the pending conclusion of this truly remarkable World Cup and the even greater result that no Union fan saw coming: the return of Kai Wagner.

Let's go Union Season 2.0!

It's hard to believe that it's only been 28 days since the start of the World Cup.  And yet at the same time, it feels like there's been nothing else in life other than this World Cup. All we know here at the AMPU studios is that we can't get enough and we don't want it to end.  Join Paul, C, and E this week as they look to the Union's Season 2.0, marvel at the Churchillian defense England mustered against Mexico, and reveal that E was the actual cause of the US getting knocked out of the World Cup.

May we all aspire, in our own way, to be like Cabo Verde: Small but mighty.

Country Roads and La Marseillaise have been on heavy rotation this week at the AMPU Studios as the World Cup good vibes continue to reverberate around the country.  Join Paul, C, and E as they discuss the Union Reset, Paul's experience as a FIFA volunteer at matches, the benefits of the longest rain delay in World Cup history, and that we're going to have to "trust the process" if we're going to "take Pochettino home...

....to the place, where [we] belong." (See, E did work it into the episode description!)

With a few noteworthy exceptions, all's quiet on the Union front.  But with national teams from all over the world converging on our North American home, two-thirds of the AMPU crew return to the studios to revel in the flawed but glorious spectacle that is the World Cup.  Without the sage guidance of Paul this week, C and E make a valiant go of things as they wish Mbaizo a sunnier future, celebrate Union announcer, Kevin Casey, living a World Cup dream, and dare to hope in a USMNT that could surprise the world.  May this World Cup unite us all.

Sometimes, you get want you need.

It's a bit of down time at the AMPU studios this week, so we're allowing ourselves a little leeway in our topics of conversation.  Join Paul, C, and E as they wonder: What could have been if the Union had taken other paths?  If Bedoya ran for public office?  If Indy went into acting?  If Gritty was actually a secret weapon?  Ah, the world may never know.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Things get a little philosophical at the AMPU studios this week as we come to grips with what was all but inevitable.  Join Paul, C, and E as they weigh in on one of the most record setting games for the Union that resulted in an Iloski hattrick, an actual Damiani goal, and still a loss for the Union.  And of course it was the final straw that broke the camel's back for Bradley Carnell's time as manager.

The only true wisdom is in knowing we know nothing.

Things are getting repetitive around the AMPU studios this week.  Once again, the Union lose/draw another game and the AMPU crew try to come up with something original to say about the Groundhog Day time loop we seem to be trapped in.  Join Paul, C, and E this week as they ask the profound questions: Have we've witnessed Carnell's last home game for the Union?  Is the 50/50 raffle an accurate fan support metric?  What is the worst haircut in MLS?  And in honor of Stephen Colbert (and to shamelessly steal his IP), Paul and C take the AMPU Questionnaire.

Congratulations, you Gooners!

There's no sugar-coating the Union's performance at the AMPU studios this week: Injuries, mistakes, PK's, ridiculous Apple win probabilities. It's bad. It's real bad. Join Paul, C, and E as they celebrate firsts for Bender and Cavan, lamentably start the countdown clock on Carnell's tenure, and discuss the sense of freedom that comes when you're at the bottom.

Food discussions abound at the AMPU studios this week.  Join Paul, C, and E as they discuss the delicious tidbits from the most recent game against Nashville, from Sery's early game injury, to Iloski's many attempts for a goal, to the goal post keeping Nashville in the game.  Also, Damiani was there.

Wouldn't Wawa look great on a Union jersey?  Two words: snake sauce.
