Leana Pelicié is a 17-year-old, originally from Jamaica and now lives in Florida. Leana has always enjoyed the more creative side of things. Art, photography, cooking/baking, and music. In middle school, she had a particularly strenuous time with math.

We interview Leana on the episode, From Tears & Red Marks to A’s & Hundreds! We discuss what math was like before Mr. D and how that affected her. She also shares the advice she would give to other students who are struggling with math and how her experience with math has changed since homeschooling.

Brooklyn Castro is a homeschool mother of two daughters, Olive and Lucy, who are now 15 and 12.  Brooklyn has homeschooled both of her daughters all the way through. She also leads their Girl Scout troop! They have been in Girl Scouts for 10th years as a troop. They all enjoy game schooling, project-based learning, and outdoor adventures!

Jayda Murray has an extensive and impressive resume for such a young person. Her tech experience includes a two-time Congressional App Award, National & Regional NCWIT award, and TED-ED Youth Talk. At a young age, she was honored to accept the role of Game Design Artist for the non-profit Shero-Hub. While volunteering with St. Jude’s Hospital, she helped create an artificial intelligence app to raise money for patients.  Jayda is a high school senior, artist, computer programmer, and lover of all things Kingdom Hearts--the videogame. Accepted into some of the top schools in the nation, she will be graduating in May 2022 not only with a high school diploma but her Associates in Science from Charter Oaks State College. Laura Kazan runs a FB group for California homeschool parents of middle and high school students whose kids are college-bound. (College includes 2 year, 4 year, and any other type of post-secondary path). She has a great team of experienced mods and admins and the goal of the group is to reduce fear and provide accurate information.

She is also the college advisor for an independent study charter school in Los Angeles County.

Laura is a former homeschooling parent whose son is now in College! She shares that she pulled her own son out of traditional school in 8th grade because she felt the system was not meeting her needs.

Kara is a 14-year-old homeschool student that recently started being homeschooled over covid. Prior to Covid, Kara was in the public school system and has enjoyed her transition into homeschooling full-time.

Julie Polanco is the author of God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn and 100 Ways to Motivate Kids, two books that show parents how to instill self-directed learning in their children and also help them connect the real world to school lessons. She is also a 20-year veteran homeschooling mom of four special needs kids and is a Master Herbalist and Aromatherapist.
