NHL Free Agency opened with with the Calgary Flames extending defenceman Joel Hanley to a two year extension. The Flames bring back the LHD that took a giant leap in responsibilities jumping from an extra defenceman to top four pairing. The Flames are dealing with a bit of a log jam at every position except goalie. Does re-signing Hanley make any sort of sense when you have the likes of Ilya Solovyov, Yan Kuznetsov, Etienne Morin, Joni Jurmo, Artyom Grushnikov and Jeremie Poirier waiting in the wings? Are they going to waive Daniil Miromanov or Jake Bean? Can the Flames start the season with Rasmus Andersson or will the trade rumours be nothing but a distraction?
