Abraham was asked of God the seemingly impossible: sacrifice the son whom he loves. Scripture doesn't sugar coat the realities of how difficult of a decision this was, nor how much his faith was tested. And yet, God showed himself faithful and provided a substitute. Just as God provided his Son as a substitute for us.
