One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has described the party's victory in the Farrer by-election as "resounding".

Candidate David Farley leads the count in the southern New South Wales seat by 14,000 ballots with more than 80 per cent of votes counted.

Ms Hanson says the fall in support for the Liberal and Nationals shows they're out of touch and the outcome is a very good sign for the future of her party.

The Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers says he'll be handing down a "housing budget" on Tuesday aimed at fixing what he's called a broken system.

The head of the World Health Organisation is seeking to reassure the people of the Spanish island of Tenerife ahead of the expected arrival of the cruise ship impacted by hantavirus.

Three passengers have died and several others are ill after contracting a rare strain of the virus, usually transmitted by contact with rodents.

The WHO is assuring local residents that passengers will be brought ashore in sealed vehicles, and flown straight out.

The party's candidate, David Farley, leads the count by 14,000 ballots with more than 80 per cent of the votes counted.  

The Liberal party has admitted it needs to adapt to gain government again after losing the regional New South Wales seat that had been held by the Coalition for almost 80 years.

And a British Labour backbencher has issued an ultimatum to the country's cabinet ministers, challenge the embattled Prime Minister for the leadership, or she will.

The British Labour Party suffered crushing defeats in local elections last week now London based MP Catherine West says if a cabinet minister doesn't put themselves forward to challenge Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as party leader by Monday she will attempt to trigger a leadership contest herself.

Ms West, who's a dual British Australian citizen, told Times Radio her preferred option would be for the cabinet to reorganise themselves.

The Liberal party has conceded it must adapt if it wishes to ever gain government agaiin after losing the historically safe Coalition seat of Farrer to One Nation.

One Nation candidate David Farley's thumping win in the by-election, marks the first time the party has won a Lower House seat in federal parliament.

Liberal leader Angus Taylor says his party in recent times has been one of "convenience" not of "conviction".

Meanwhile overseas and tensions around the Persian Gulf and Lebanon continue to escalate, as Iran ignored US predictions that it would respond to the Trump Administration's peace proposal on Friday.

Israel has stepped up attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, hitting 85 in a 24-hour period.

Up to 50 people have reportedly been killed, prompting Hezbollah to fire rockets into northern Israel in retaliation.

The strikes reflect the Netanyahu government's push on Washington to abandon its peace track with Iran, and come on top of fresh skirmishes in the Persian Gulf, where the US hit Iranian-flagged oil tankers and the UAE came under renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks.

Passengers on board a cruise ship infected with hantavirus will soon start making their way home, including a number of Australians.

The ship will anchor close to the Spanish island of Tenerife and passengers will be taken to land in smaller boats before boarding repatriation flights.

So far, three people have died from the outbreak.  

Tenerife locals say they are concerned but the World Health Organisation says the public risk is low.
