Energy Minister Chris Bowen says Australia has more fuel in the country today than before the conflict in the Middle East began.

He's given an update on the current fuel supply levels in the country and confirmed four-billion litres of fuel are contracted to be delivered over the next month.

Mr Bowen says Australians should take confidence in the amount of fuel arriving here, but that the cost of fuel will remain high so long as the Strait of Hormuz remains blockaded.

The United States is withdrawing five thousand troops from its NATO ally Germany.

The Pentagon announcement comes as a rift widens between US President Donald Trump and Europe over the Iran war.

Mr Trump had threatened a drawdown in forces earlier this week after sparring with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

On Monday, Mr Merz said the Iranians were humiliating the US in talks to end the two-month-old war.

It comes as Mr Trump says he's not happy with Iran's latest peace plan proposals.

NT Police says Alice Springs has remained calm overnight following the unrest on Thursday evening following the arrest of Jefferson Lewis in relation to the abduction and death of a five-year-old girl.

Kumanjayi Little Baby had been visiting family with her mother in what is known as a Town Camp when she was allegedly abducted, sparking a five-day search.

Jefferson Lewis has been arrested and is expected to be charged with her murder.

The 47-year-old  remains in custody in Darwin.

The activists were part of a group of more than 100 people on the Global Sumud Flotilla which, before being intercepted by Israeli forces was attempting to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza

Organisers of the flotilla said three Australians were taken to hospital in Crete after suffering cuts and bruises, and a possible concussion.

US President Donald Trump says he's not satisfied with Iran's latest proposal regarding negotiations to end the war between the two countries.

The comments came after Iranian state media and a Pakistani official said Iran had submitted its latest proposal for negotiations.

Trump didn't elaborate on what he saw as the latest proposal's shortcomings.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says his country's ready to pursue diplomacy if the US changes what he's called its "excessive ⁠approach, and provocative actions."

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has announced he'll increase tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union to twenty five percent next week.

On Truth Social, Mr Trump said the EU was not complying with its trade deal with the US, without specifying how.

Mr Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had agreed to the trade deal last July, setting a tariff of 15 percent on most goods.

Six Australians who were detained by Israeli forces while trying to deliver aid to Gaza have been released on the Greek island of Crete.

After spending nearly two days on board an Israeli ship, the six were released on the island after they tried to break Israel's naval blocked of Gaza and take humanitarian aid to the strip.

The Chinese owned company that holds the 99-year lease over the Port of Darwin has launched an international legal challenge against the Australian government.

During last years election campaign Anthony Albanse pledged to return the Port to Australian hands.

But Chinese-owned company Landbridge is now arguing that terminating the lease would violate the terms of Australia's free trade agreement with China.

Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe says there needs to be an inquiry into failures that led to the killing of a five-year-old girl in Alice Springs.

Prominent surgeon Dr Reza Adib  has been charged with three counts of rape, one of sexual assault and two counts of deprivation of liberty.

Officers allege a woman in her 30s was sexually assaulted at an address on the Gold Coast on the 30th of March.

Dr Adib is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates' Court in May.
