The search for 5-year-old girl Sharon Granites is continuing near Alice Springs with police today saying they believe she was abducted.

Helicopters, police dogs and local community groups have been part of the search, focusing on areas including the dry Todd River bed.

Police are looking for 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis in relation to her alleged abduction.

US President Donald Trump insists it's important to re-schedule the White House Correspondents' dinner within 30 days, and with more security, after a gunman fired shots in the foyer of the event.

The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen managed to bring several weapons into the Washington Hilton.

He was detained and is expected to face charges.
