A 31-year-old man will face court tomorrow over the shooting during the White House Correspondents Gala Dinner in Washington.

US President Donald Trump was evacuated and one officer was shot during the incident.

The man allegedly had several firearms and knives and rushed Secret Service officers in the lobby of the Washington Hilton, where the event was being held.

Speaking to press at the White House afterwards, Mr Trump says the injured officer was saved by a bullet proof vest and is doing well.

Iranian news agency Tasnim reports Iran has executed a ​man convicted of being a member of a ‌militant group and carrying out attacks on ‌Iranian security ⁠forces.

Authorities identified the man as Amer Ramesh, saying ​he'd been arrested in a counter-terrorism ⁠operation ‌in southeastern Iran and ‌charged with armed rebellion, ‌including being involved in bombings ‌and ​ambushes ⁠targeting military personnel.

He's accused of being a member of Jaish al-Adl, an extremist Sunni Muslim ⁠militant group active in Iran's poorest ‌region, ‌Sistan-Baluchestan.

A search is continuing in Alice Springs for a five-year-old girl reported missing from her home in an Aboriginal town camp overnight.

Police say Sharon was last seen at her home in the Old Timers' or Ilyperenye town camp at around 11.30pm, but found to be missing two hours later.

Police search coordinator Ben Evans says around 30 emergency services personnel are continuing the search around the town camp and nearby Todd River bed and surrounds.

US President Donald Trump says a man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons and was brought down by secret service agents at the White House Correspondent's Dinner.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House, President Trump says one officer was shot but was wearing a bullet proof vest.

He says he's spoken to the agent and he's "doing great".

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche says multiple charges are expected to be filed soon against the man - believed to from California - who's in custody.

President Trump says the dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.

The federal government says it's providing zero assistance to a group of Australian families, with links to former Islamic State group fighters, who are again seeking to return to Australia.

Four women, along with nine of their children and grandchildren, left a Syrian refugee camp on Friday, where they have spent years stranded.

It's understood they're trying to travel home to Australia.

Around 400 people have gathered on the lawns of Parliament House in Canberra for an anti-immigration rally.

Organisers say One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and Nationals leader Matt Canavan will be speaking at the event.

Queensland M-P Bob Katter is also at the rally.

US President Donald Trump has posted on social media that a shooter has been apprehended after a security incident at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner Gala in Washington DC.

On Truth Social he posted, "Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely."

President Trump, his wife and others were evacuated from the event.

The US Secret Service says the condition of those involved is not yet known and that law enforcement is actively assessing the situation.

The Victorian Premier says she trusts the Police Chief Commissioner, after further firebombings and shootings targeting hospitality venues in Melbourne.

A bar in Chapel St Prahran was set alight around five o'clock this morning, while several hours earlier shots were fired into the Emerson Hotel on Commercial Road in South Yarra.

At this stage no arrests have been made.

It follows a string of similar incidents targeting licensed venues in recent weeks.

An investigation is underway after a man allegedly assaulted several nurses, police and a member of the public at a hospital in Sydney's east overnight.

Police were told a 51-year-old patient seriously injured a nurse's leg before assaulting two other nurses and a security guard at Randwick.

The man also allegedly assaulted a woman who was attempting to protect a nearby patient with a garbage bin.

A taser was deployed to subdue him and he was subsequently arrested and moved to a secure facility within the hospital.

Guests had been seated for a short time when Secret Service flooded the room and yelled for people to "get down".

Mr Trump and his Cabinet were rushed from the ballroom.

Fox News is reporting that shots were fired - and CNN is reporting President Trump is safe.

Dignitaries at the head table included President Trump, the First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he's still open to peace talks with Iran, despite cancelling a US delegation trip to Pakistan.

Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi met with mediators in Islamabad but never confirmed direct talks with the US would take place.

US President Donald Trump says he's still open to peace negotiations with Iran after the latest round of expected talks in Pakistan fell through.

In a post on truth social the president says there's infighting and confusion within the Iranian leadership and that nobody knows who's in charge.

A delegation from Tehran left Islamabad after concluding talks with Pakistani officials.

In a post on X the Iranian Foreign Minister says he's yet to see if the US is truly serious about diplomacy.

The Israeli military has carried out more strikes in the south of Lebanon as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the IDF to "vigorously attack" Hezbollah targets - despite an extended ceasefire.

The demand came after strikes from the militant group on Saturday.

In retaliation, the IDF says it has been striking Hezbollah bases in southern Lebanon.

Four people were killed in the latest Israeli attack with the IDF claiming three were Hezbollah operatives.  

Police in Alice Springs say a 5-year-old girl is missing from a home in a nearby Aboriginal town camp.

They're referring to the girl only as 'Sharon' ... and say she was reported missing at around half past one this morning from a home on Marshall Court in the Old Timers' or Ilyperenye town camp.

She was last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt with a white stripes around neck and cuffs and a pair of black boxer-style shorts.

The prospect of a fresh round of face-to-face peace talks between the US and Iran has collapsed - with US President Donald Trump calling off a negotiating team's trip to Pakistan.

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were due to travel overnight, and while Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi was already in Islamabad, there was no confirmation that he'd participate in direct talks.

He has since left after conveying Iran's position to Pakistani negotiators.

Mr Trump says the envoys' trip is now cancelled – adding that the US has all the cards and if Iran wants to talk, all they have to do is call.

The future of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is now uncertain.

After the militant group Hezbollah launched rockets and drones into northern Israel on Saturday, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he's instructed the IDF to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon with force.

Israel has accused Hezbollah of trying to sabotage the ceasefire that was extended by three weeks on Thursday.

But Hezbollah has accused Israel of ceasefire violations too.

Four people were killed in an Israeli drone strike in Israeli occupied southern Lebanon on Saturday and the Israeli military says three were Hezbollah operatives.

A fresh wave of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro has killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more.

Officials say drones and missiles hit the city overnight, collapsing part of an apartment building.

Regional officials say the city was targeted for more than 20 hours, with repeated waves of drones and missiles hitting residential areas.

Ukraine says it shot down most of the incoming projectiles, which was part of a barrage of hundreds launched overnight.

A Sydney childcare worker is expected to face court today over the alleged assault of two boys in his care.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in Belmore yesterday and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was refused bail.

He's accused of assaulting two boys, aged three and four, by slapping them in the face with an open hand at a Panania childcare centre, in Sydney's south west, on Thursday.

The worker is facing two counts of common assault, and is due to appear before the virtual Bail Division court today.

And, several popular beaches in Sydney's Royal National Park are likely to stay closed for much of the long weekend, due to increased shark activity caused by a whale carcass.

Surf life savers made the discovery at Era Beach where the dead whale had washed up on a rock platform.

As a result, Surf Life Saving NSW made the decision to close  Era, Garie, Wattamolla and Burning Palms beaches.

CEO Stephen Pearce says there's a significant spike in shark activity which is being monitored with drones and jetskis.
