Australia's ambassador to Turkiye has spoken of the cost of war while addressing the Anzac Dawn Service at Gallipoli.

ANZAC Day commemorates Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought on the Turkish beach in 1915.

Ambassador Sally-Anne Vincent used her address to speak about losses to families on both sides of the conflict.

Collard was initially suspended for seven weeks for using homophobic language towards an opponent in a VFL match, but then the appeals board reduced the ban to two weeks, saying racist, sexist and homophobic language is "commonplace" on the field.

That statement attracted widespread criticism, and the A-F-L's now confirmed it's terminating the contract of appeals board chair Will Houghton KC.

Politicians, veterans, the acting army chief and the Defence Minister have slammed the hecklers for disrespecting a solemn day of respect and reflection.

The government says it's not helping Australian women and children with ties to the Islamic State group return to Australia.

The ABC's revealed a group of families with links to former ISIS fighters has left a Syrian refugee camp, months after their last attempt to get back to Australia failed.
