Australia's most decorated soldier Ben Roberts-Smith has been charged with five counts of committing the war crime of murder.The Victoria Cross recipient was arrested at Sydney Airport this morning after an investigation into the alleged murders of multiple unarmed civilians and prisoners in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2012.Mr Roberts-Smith has been charged with intentionally causing the death of two detainees, while three other offences allege he "aided, abetted, counselled or procured" someone to cause the death of three other detainees.The offence of war crime - murder carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The 47-year-old is expected to remain in custody overnight before he faces court tomorrow.The Israeli military has told Iranians to stay away from railway lines in their country, after carrying out another wave of deadly attacks across Iran.Tehran has continued its retaliatory strikes across the Gulf, with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain facing further missile strikes.Overnight, US President Donald Trump again called Australia out for not assisting in the war.

One of Australia's most decorated soldiers, Ben Roberts-Smith is facing the prospect of life imprisonment after being arrested in relation to multiple counts of war crime murder.

The 47-year-old was arrested at Sydney Domestic Airport this morning following a five-year joint investigation between the Office of the Special Investigator and the Australian Federal Police.

He's expected to be charged in relation to the alleged murders of five unarmed civilians during deployments to Afghanistan between 2009 and 2012.

His arrest follows a failed defamation bid against Nine newspapers, where the Federal Court found on the balance of probabilities that he was involved in the murders of four unarmed men.

The new charges would need to be proven 'beyond reasonable doubt' - a  higher standard than what applied in the defamation proceedings. 

The Israeli military has told Iranians to stay away from railway lines, after carrying out another wave of deadly attacks across Iran.

One of Australia's most decorated soldiers, Ben Roberts-Smith, has been taken into custody over the alleged murders of unarmed Afghan civilians.

The Victoria Cross recipient was arrested at Sydney domestic airport this morning and is expected to be charged with five counts of war crime murder following a joint investigation between the Office of the Special Investigator and the Australian Federal Police.

It follows Mr Roberts-Smith's failed defamation case against Nine newspapers, in which the Federal Court found on the balance of probabilities that he was involved in the murder of four unarmed men.

No criminal findings were made and Mr Roberts-Smith has always maintained his innocence. 

The latest data shows the number of service stations without diesel across the country is continuing to decrease.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen has confirmed there are 241 with no diesel nationwide -- 33 less than yesterday.

New South Wales continues to be hit hardest with 125 service stations without diesel and 34 with no unleaded fuel.

US President Donald Trump is threatening to jail the journalist who broke the story about an American jet fighter pilot being rescued in Iran.

An American jet was shot down over Iran last week, as the US and Israeli war on Tehran continued. 

US rescue forces have successfully recovered the two men onboard.

It's not clear which media ‌outlet or reporter Mr Trump is referring to.

The former SAS soldier and Victoria Cross recipient was taken into custody by investigators from the Office of the Special Investigator at Sydney domestic airport this morning.

Mr Roberts-Smith is expected to be charged with five counts of war crime murder relating to his time serving in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2012.

During an unsuccessful defamation case against Nine Newspapers, a Federal Court judge found there was "substantial truth" to allegations he killed four unarmed civilians in Afghanistan.

This is the first time he's faced criminal charges, which carry the maximum penalty of life imprisonment. 

Mr Roberts-Smith is expected to appear in court later today.

The Federal Government has chosen not to publicly condemn US President Donald Trump, for targeting Australia.

Mr Trump has again called out Australia over a perceived lack of support for his war with Israel against Iran.

In response, Federal Attorney-General Michelle Rowland has called for de-escalation in Iran.
