Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is crossing the Pilbara coast as a Category 3 system between Coral Bay and Cape Cuvier.

Extreme wind gusts up to 205 km/h are impacting the coast near Ningaloo and Coral Bay.

While the cyclone has made landfall, it will continue to skirt the coast, with destructive conditions.

Coastal residents between Onslow and Denham are being warned of a dangerous storm tide as the cyclone moves south down the Gascoyne coast.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has kept the door open to halving taxes on petrol and diesel after the Coalition demanded temporary relief from sky-high fuel prices.

A tax of 53 cents is paid on every litre of petrol and diesel sold at the bowser, meaning 26 cents per litre would be saved if retailers fully passed on a halving of the excise.

Mr Albanese also relented to pressure from the states for the Commonwealth to take a leading role in managing the fuel crisis sparked by the war in Iran.

And the ABC projects One Nation's Robert Roylance will be the next member for Hammond, in South Australia's Murraylands.

Two-candidate preferred counts in the first few booths reported today have seen One Nation pick up more than half of preferences from excluded candidates.

The result means One Nation has won at least two seats in SA's state parliament. 

The Bureau of Meteorology says Tropical Cyclone Narelle will cross the coast of WA just to the south of Coral Bay over the next few hours.

The category three cyclone has started to weaken but is still producing wind gusts of up to 220 kilometres per hour.

Authorities have confirmed there is no power in Exmouth and residents at the town's evacuation centre have been relocated due to roof damage.

As the nation's fuel crisis deepens, the Coalition is calling on the federal government to immediately halve the fuel excise and road user charge.

The plan would be paid for by removing a tax exemption for electric vehicles, slashing green hydrogen projects and freezing the home battery scheme.
