The Prime Minister says 10,000 jobs will be created as part of a $30 billion AUKUS shipyard project in South Australia.

The facility at Osborne in Adelaide's north will include a training academy and three main areas - two for fabricating and outfitting vessels - and a third for consolidating, testing, launching and commissioning.

Anthony Albanese says SA's history of naval construction is key to the project.

The New York Times newspaper is reporting the Trump administration has secretly deported nine people to Cameroon, ​despite many of them having U-S court protections against that and none of ​them coming ‌from the African nation.

Citing government documents ⁠and attorneys ‌for the deportees, it says of the men ‌and women did ‌not know their destination until they were put on a Department of Homeland Security flight ‌in handcuffs and chains.

Federal officials have not yet responded to a Reuters news agency request for comment.

A man's been taken into custody after an alleged heist at a museum north of Brisbane.

Queensland Police allege several Ancient Egyptian artefacts were stolen from the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Caboolture during a break-in at about three o'clock Friday morning.

Police previously alleged a man broke a window and entered the premises, before making off with artefacts including a burial mask, jewellery and a cat figurine.

Police say they've now been recovered.

A driver will remain behind bars charged over a pursuit and double fatal crash in Sydney's south-west.

Police say the man stole a car yesterday morning before colliding with another vehicle at Camden South.

The two women in the second car - aged 60 and 84 - died at the scene.

Officers had been chasing the car but say they stopped around 40 minutes before the crash.

A 31-year-old man was arrested nearby, and has been charged with 11 offences.

The case has been mentioned in court - he has made no application for bail.

The Victorian Government has ruled out introducing an extra public holiday for Anzac Day, with April 25th falling on a weekend this year and next.

This is despite New South Wales moving to trial an additional public holiday on the Monday after Anzac Day this year, to give people more time to commemorate.

WA and the ACT are also granting a public holiday on April 27.

U-S Secretary of State Marco Rubio has told the Munich Security Conference that Washington is seeking to "revitalise" its alliance with European countries.

After European leaders were berated by U-S Vice President JD Vance at the same meeting last year over freedom of speech and defence spending, Mr Rubio took a more conciliatory tone this time.

He told the audience the United States will always be a "child of Europe" and insisted that his country wanted to preserve that relationship, rather than end it.

An 85-year-old man remains missing after he was allegedly kidnapped from a Sydney home by mistake.

Chris Baghsarian was allegedly taken from his home in North Ryde early on Friday morning and hasn't been seen since.

It's believed up to three people forced their way into his property and bundled him into a dark SUV which was found burnt-out nearby. But police say the 85-year-old was not the intended target.

A photo of Mr Baghsarian has been released in the hopes someone can help police find him - or his kidnappers will bring him back.

There'll be an extra public holiday in New South Wales this year and the next following Anzac Day.

The 25th of April is on Saturday this year, and Sunday in 2027.

The state government says a Monday public holiday will make it consistent with other major public holidays.

An additional day off has never previously been observed in the state, if Anzac Day fell on a weekend.
