Angus Taylor has quit the front bench and it’s expected he’ll challenge Sussan Ley to be opposition leader, although he hasn’t called for a spill meeting just yet.

Liberal MP Claire Chandler is the first of Angus Taylor’s backers to resign from the front bench with more expected to come. 

The ABC understands Jane Hume will nominate for deputy leader once a spill is declared.

The disgruntled moderate has sat on the back bench since being dumped from shadow cabinet by Sussan Ley in May.
