Our human bodies steadily grow from birth and the average person stops growing by the time they’re twenty. Though we do stop growing physically, we should never stop growing spiritually. As we’ll see in our study today on Abounding Grace, God desires for us to be healthy and mature believers, displaying the love of Christ with knowledge and understanding.

We'll be in Second Samuel 11 today on Abounding Grace. David’s sin with Bathsheeba, and the murder that followed, didn’t just happen. Like all sin, the pathway was predictable. And if we’re wise we’ll take note of it, so the next time temptation comes knocking on our door we’ll know how to deal with it.

One of the many problems with sin is that it deceives us into thinking that it’s no big deal. We think we can stop at any point. All the while its putting its hooks into us, forging an invisible chain. Before we know it, we awake to the reality that we’re held captive to it, and wondering how to break free. So it’s important to recognize our weakness and vulnerability to sin and discover some practical steps we can take that will serve to protect us.

There are a couple of events in David’s life that would seem to stand out above all others... perhaps the slaying of Goliath is one, and certainly the fall into adultery and murder would be another. We’ll look at the latter today on Abounding Grace, and seek to learn from David’s mistakes, so that we can avoid going down a similar path. As Christians we’re called to be peacemakers, but making peace is not always possible because of the unwillingness of others. Then there’s also the concern of our peacemaking efforts being misjudged or ineffective. What then? Let’s look to the Scriptures for some answers to these questions today on Abounding Grace!
