Action Movie Hall of Fame

In 2017, the people in charge of the MCU took a chance on an indie director to re-energize the Thor franchise.  Taika Waititi took on the task, and with hilarious results. But will Waititi's humorous vision of the modern Superhero be enough for Thor: Ragnarok into the Action Movie Hall of Fame, or will it be left looking for the nearest anus to escape from?

There's no doubt that Tom Cruise is an Action Movie all-time super star. But not all of his action movies can make it into the Action Movie Hall of Fame, can they? This week, Matt and Dereck do a deep dive on 2012's Jack Reacher. Does this drifter has what it takes to achieve greatness, or will he simply visit the AMHOF before taking the next bus out of town?

In 1997, the world's greatest dinosaur movie came out. No, wait. That was 1993. In 1997, the sequel to the world's greatest dinosaur movie came out: Lost World. Reviews weren't kind 25 years ago, but this is still a film directed by Steven Speilberg. With an impressive cast, does Lost World deserve a shot to make it into the Action Movie Hall of Fame, or is it safest for everyone if it's kept away from the rest of the world?

It was 25 years go that two of Hollywood's biggest stars swapped places in the action movie with a premise no one could forget: Face Off. Are the star-power and plot enough to reflect attention away from the movie's flaws and speedboat its way into the Action Movie Hall of Fame? Or is Face/Off finally ready, ready for the big ride, baby?

Matt and Dereck take a look back on the 21 Jump Street reboot 10 years after it came out. How do Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum mesh as a comedy buddy duo? Does the comedy hold up? What about the action? Will 21 Jump Street have what it takes to get into the Action Movie Hall of Fame, or will it get schooled?

After watching 1986's Top Gun last week, now an Action Movie Hall of Fame inductee, Matt and Dereck trot out to the movie theatre, then to the car, for a parking-lot review of 2022's Top Gun: Maverick. With expectations with this movie though the roof (but REALLY shouldn't be any lower than 5,000 feet) could Maverick possibly live up to expectations? Or is the movie entering a dangerous zone for overdue movie sequels? 

36 years before the release of Top Gun: Maverick was the original: 1986's Top Gun.  Dereck and Matt will be doing a review of Maverick next week. So this week, the revisit the original. The music. The hair. The volleyball. The sweating. Will the dated nature of this movie cause it to crash and burn like unseen jet-wash as it attempts to make it to the Action Movie Hall of Fame - or will it prove to be one of the best, and ascend to the Hall.

This week we stay in the Horror Action genre with 2002's Resident Evil. Does this franchise led by Mila Jovovich have what it take to make it to the Action Movie Hall of Fame? Or is it destined to be stuck underground and never see the light of day again?

This week, Derrek and Matt go back to 1997, but stay in the Alien universe by watching the Alien: Resurrection - the sequel to Alien 3. A3 was denied access to the Action Movie Hall of Fame. But will this improved effort find new life in the AMHOF, or will be set ablaze due to it's imperfections?

Alien was a horror masterpiece. Aliens was inducted into the Action Movie Hall of Fame. Does Alien 3 continue the proud Alien tradition, or will it meet a classic death of being dipped in lead, then exploded with a somehow-still-working sprinkler system?
