Afrika für Almans

[DE] Diese Woche dreht sich alles um die westafrikanische Regionalmacht Ghana! 

Während der Kolonialzeit betrieben hier die europäischen Herrscher drei Jahrhunderte lang den größten Sklavenhandel Afrikas, doch mittlerweile gilt das Land auf dem gesamten Kontinent als Vorbild in Sachen Demokratie und Stabilität. Neben den klassischen Kapiteln werfen wir diese Woche auch einen Blick auf die Fischereiverbrechen (das sogenannte Saiko-Business) vor der ghanaischen Küste.

Ab 29:39 gibt es zusätzlich noch ein ausführliches Expertengespräch. Zu Gast ist der ivorische Politik- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Ange Stephane Kouassi. Er berichtet ausführlich über den so wichtigen Kakaoanbau (Ghana und die Elfenbeinküste sind weltweit die Hauptproduzenten) und zeigt im weiteren Verlauf interessante Perspektiven auf die Deutsch-Afrikanische Entwicklungszusammenarbeit auf.

[ENG] The Gambia is the smallest state in continental Africa. It circulates around the river Gambia and has a beautiful coastline along the Atlantic while being surrounded from 3 of its 4 sides from neighboring Senegal.

Being formerly part of the British Commonwealth, the official language in Gambia until this day is English. In order to get a better idea of the historical, political and socio-cultural situation in the West-African state, we are joined this week by the Gambian medical student John Paul Gomes to talk about his home country.

[DE] Gabun ist ein dünn besiedeltes Land im westlichen Zentralafrika und wird geprägt von unglaublichen Naturschönheiten. Der Großteil der Landesfläche ist bedeckt vom Regenwald und hat neben zahlreichen Tier- und Pflanzensorten (Stichwort "Surfende Nilpferde") auch üppige Bodenschätze zu bieten. Die heutige Afrika für Almans Folge beschäftigt sich nicht nur mit den drei hiesigen Exportschlagern Erdöl, Holz und Mangan, sondern wirft auch einen kritischen Blick die Rolle Chinas im Kongobecken sowie auf die Deutsch-Gabunischen Beziehungen.

Themen sind unter anderem die Rolle der katholischen und orthodoxen Kirchen innerhalb des Landes, die große und aktive eritreische Diaspora. [DE] Einst gehörte Eritrea zu Äthiopien, doch nach langen und blutigen Kampf erlangte der kleine Staat im Nordosten Afrikas 1993 seine Unabhängigkeit. In dieser krisenreichen Region dominierten auch in der Folgezeit Krieg und Konflikte das junge Land, was schlußendlich auch zum anhaltenden Exodus vieler Eritreer gen Ausland führte. Aber es gibt nicht nur Negatives zu berichten, der seit 25 Jahren schwelende Konflikt mit Äthiopien über die gemeinsame Grenze scheint kurz vor der Beilegung und auch das Zusammenleben von Islam und der Eritreeisch-Orthodoxen Kirche (deren wichtigstes Kloster im Episodenbild) gestaltet sich friedlich.

[DE] Das Land der Ivorer war einst afrikanisches Vorzeigemodell und Musterland. Unter dem Nationalhelden Felix Houphouët-Boigny stieg es auf zu großer politischer und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung, eng verbunden mit der ehemaligen Kolonialmacht Frankreich. Aus dieser Zeit stammt auch der Bau der größten Kathedrale der Welt (s. Foto). Durch die anschließenden Jahre der Bürgerkriege, Spaltung und Armut wurde die Elfenbeinküste schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen, seit 2011 geht es aber wieder politisch und wirtschaftlich bergauf. Zusammen mit dem gesamten Land blickt der Afrika für Almans Podcast gespannt auf die Präsidentschaftswahlen 2020.
