Let's just get straight to the issues, people! Of course, this is the Mid Week In Review podcast, engineered by Afronerd Radio and airing every Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. Join your hosts, Dburt and Capt. Kirk as they discuss the following topics: although discussed a bit during our Grindhouse show, there still appears to be more opinion and fallout from the respective controversies of comedians, Bill Maher and Kathy Griffin; our impressions of two stories that represent opposite ends of the Black financial spectrum-hip hop artist, Kendrick Lamar buying his sister a sensible automobile versus a Philly HS student's mother spending 25K on a ghetto fabulous prom night; Dburt still has more venom to spew on the Jason Whitlock vs Lebron James vandalism incident (fat shaming appears to be OK if you don't have the right opinion); some Harlem, NY residents are resistent to a proposed name change (SoHa dba South Harlem) as it appears to be the harbinger of gentrification; Harvard University rescinds a number of admission offers due to unsavory and/or racial Facebook postings (wow..is it the class of 2021 or 1984?); a HuffPost op-ed, entitled, "I Used To Be Ashamed Of My Blackness" irks Dburt.....Is it 1840, 1940 or 2017BC? (before consciousness); an Afropunk piece critiques the Wonder Woman film for pro-White Feminism, Imperialism and racial tokenism (whew....); Snapchat and Instagram may be contributing to poor mental health among young folk (but Youtube, Twitter and Facebook might be the cure). And lastly, a Black Lives Matter group has a "Black only" Memorial Day party (what happens if you're in an intercultural relationship?). Call in LIVE at 646-915-9620.
