  • Ep 977. Poolside Patience: a calming story and meditation

Kamala and Kareena are supposed to go to Kumar’s swim meet today, but they don’t want to, because it’s so boring! What will they do?

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:42

    Poolside Patience Excerpt:

“Kareena, are you awake?” Kamala whispered.

The bunkbed groaned as Kareena rolled over. “Ugh…yes, I’m awake. But I wish I wasn’t.”

Kamala sighed. “Yeah, me too.” She wondered if her sister had the same thought she had. She really didn’t want to get up and do what the family had planned today.

“Do we have to go to Kumar’s swim meet?” asked Kareena.

“I was thinking the same thing!” said Kamala. “It’s just going to be soooo boring.”

Today’s Meditation: Enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach.

Dragus Groundhog feels bored, so he looks for a change of scenery.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:55

    Groundhog Gambit Excerpt:

his burrow. He sighed a great big sigh. Dragus was bored. Everything today seemed like it was about the same as yesterday, and the same as the day before, too. He ate from the same patches of forest plants, and saw the same trees, and lived in the same burrow as he had lived his whole life. The same forest animals lived nearby, too.

He got up, scurried out of his burrow and looked around. It was a beautiful day. The air smelled sweet with wildflowers, and the mid-morning sun was creeping higher and higher in the clear sky. The air was still and peaceful as a butterfly fluttered by on its wiggly path.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:50

A Trip to the Pond Excerpt:

It was a calm morning on Ahway Island. The waters of a pond in the Ahway Island Park reflected the beautiful blue of the cloudless sky above. Grasses swayed gently in the morning breeze. The crisp morning air was filled with music as the local birds all sang their favorite melodies, singing from their houses in the trees above the pond.

Then, all of a sudden, there was a “quack” and then another “quack.” Soon a whole chorus of “quacks” filled the air. It was Mabel and Magnus Duck with their family! They were getting ready to lead their ducklings over to the pond for a morning swim.

    Narrator: Male

It was a lovely day on Ahway Island. Seagulls glided and swooped over the waters surrounding the island. Shimmering beams of sunlight drifted through the gentle waves, illuminating the diverse sea life thriving within.

Oceana Sea Otter skimmed gracefully through the water, not really having a plan for where she was going. She also wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, exactly. She just wanted something different to do. None of her usual scavenging or playtime activities seemed interesting right now.

  • Ep 974. Awesome Audition: a bedtime story and relaxation for kids

Liam gets ready to audition for his very first musical! How will he keep from being nervous?

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:55

    Awesome Audition Excerpt:

At school, during music class, the teacher announced auditions for the upcoming school musical. Liam got very excited when he heard this because he loved musicals.  His mom had taken him to see a few musicals at the local playhouse, and Liam enjoyed everything about the experience: from the music and singing to the dancing and the costumes.

Liam and his mom had talked many times about musicals. He always said the performers looked like they were having so much fun. One time, Liam asked how people got to be onstage. His mom explained that they had to audition, which meant the performer had to show their skills to the people who choose the cast. Then, his mom added that she thought Liam would be a wonderful performer. This made Liam’s heart feel full.

Wade glanced over the lazy river. It looked so peaceful, and he hoped he would be able to go in. Then Wade peered at the towering water slides. Just looking at them made him feel a little wobbly inside. They were so tall! If he got picked to ride a water slide, well…he didn’t know what he would do. What if he popped? What if he sank? What if he couldn’t keep his person safe?

    Narrator: Female

    Singing Cicada Excerpt:

Sybil Cicada awoke to sunlight warming the bark of the tree she was sleeping on. She yawned and stretched her legs. Sybil had only come up out of the ground yesterday. Before that, she had spent many years sleeping beneath the earth. This sunlight was going to take some getting used to, Sybil thought to herself.

Sybil sighed happily. Yesterday had been the most exciting day of the little cicada’s whole life. She had emerged from the cozy ground, molted her tight exoskeleton, learned to fly, and made a brand-new friend – another cicada named Simon.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Shelter Pet Parade” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:50

    Shelter Pet Parade Excerpt:

Five new arrivals landed at Ahway Island Airport.  They were labeled “Handle With Care!”  In five special containers were Gilbert the Goldfish, MustardB the Parakeet, Missy the Dog, Kit the Cat, and Larry the Iguana.

On the flight over, the five had been talking. They were all being transferred to Ahway Island Animal Shelter, so that they all find their forever families and be adopted. At first, they all had felt nervous, not knowing where Ahway Island was or what would happen when they arrived.  Missy Dog encouraged all of them to take a deep dragon breath in and out so that they would feel less nervous.

She was grateful they were all together, and she told them she had heard that Ahway Island was a very nice place, with people who loved their pets very much and considered them to be part of the family.  And that’s what each shelter pet wanted, a forever family.
