  • Ep 969. Spreading Smiles: a calming story and guided relaxation for kids

After a little nap, Dragon discovers a simple smile can brighten up anyone’s day. Before long all of Ahway Island is smiling.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:00

    Spreading Smiles Excerpt:

Dragon stood up, stretched their wings, and walked back into the woods. As Dragon approached the trees, they heard a sweet, familiar melody dancing along the breeze. It was Gerry Robin, singing her afternoon song. Dragon spotted the robin on an upper branch of an oak tree.

Though she was singing, Gerry wasn’t smiling. Dragon wondered why. Was Gerry tired? Was she feeling sad? Or maybe she was just deep in thought? Dragon decided to flash a great big grin at the little bird, sending it up toward Gerry like a sunbeam.  Almost instantly, Gerry’s beak formed a smile right back.

Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating on a cloud, and relax into the feeling of lightness.

Allie and Raj realize they need to let their friends Owen and Andy in on their joke.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “In on the Joke” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:50

    In on the Joke Excerpt:

It was a calm afternoon on Ahway Island. Allie and Raj were in Allie’s kitchen enjoying a snack of cheese and fruit as they waited for Andy and Owen to arrive for their play date. Raj was eating an orange, and Allie was eating some cheese.

Raj took a piece of orange peel and stretched it along his front teeth. He spread his lips in a wide smile so that all Allie could see was the orange peel in place of his teeth. It looked like he had a bright orange smile.

“That’s funny, Raj!” said Allie, laughing hard. She hadn’t ever seen anyone do that before. “Let me try!” she said.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:44

    The Spinning Shiny Excerpt:

Sandy Seagull woke up to a peaceful morning on the golden shores of Ahway Island. She blinked her bright eyes and stretched her soft wings. All the other seagulls on the cliff were still sleeping. Sandy smiled and took a moment to enjoy the quiet of the early day.

Floating over the horizon, the sun spread a glowing ribbon of light across the calm ocean. It looked beautiful next to the pink clouds in the sky. A light breeze carried the salty scent of the sea. The beach below seemed full of possibilities.

  • Ep 967. Sparkling Train Ride: a kids’ mindful tale and relaxation

James goes on his first ride on Ahway Island’s sparkling train!

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:55

    Sparkling Train Ride Excerpt:

“Have you seen the train before?” their dad asked. Julia nodded. James shook his head.

“Let’s go watch it!” suggested Julia. They walked to a fence where they could see the tracks, and their dad picked James up so he could see over the fence.

Suddenly, the shiny blue train appeared, glittering in the sun like a sky full of stars. It slowed to a stop in front of the station.  Some passengers got on the train, and some passengers got off the train. After a few moments, the train doors slid shut, and, silent as a whisper, the train sped up again, gliding along the track. James and Julia felt the breeze brush past their faces when the train whooshed by, giggling with delight.

Today’s Meditation: Love flows through you in this meditation as you imagine a baby fawn and mama deer.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Solar Sparkling Train” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 9:36

    Solar Sparkling Train Excerpt:

The Ahway Island Train sat quietly in its roundhouse, waiting for the day to begin. The moon was still out, reflecting brightly off the trees, and the air was still and peaceful. The sun would not rise for a few more hours, so the Train knew it would be a while before it was time to get going.

As the Train relaxed, it daydreamed about what it might encounter in the upcoming day. Would Dragon be out and about in the enchanted forest? Or would Dragon be off on adventure with some of the kids? Perhaps Rogelio, Brianna and Helen? If they were on an adventure, would they be at the Ahway Island beach swimming or making a sandcastle?

Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating on a cloud, and relax into the feeling of lightness.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:55

    New Fire Engine Excerpt:

In this moment, as the captain finished maneuvering the ferry into its berth, it was not time for sleep. Fruma tingled in anticipation. Within moments, the ship stopped moving, and the motor went silent and still. They had finally docked at Ahway Island, Fruma’s new home.

The waves lapped at the sides of the ferry, making a slapping sound. Fruma sat quietly in her parking spot, waiting to see what would happen next. She bubbled with excitement. She had an important job to do, and she took it very seriously. The previous fire engine on this island had retired and now it was up to Fruma to protect the inhabitants.

This was LaShawn’s favorite spot to practice. It helped him pretend he was standing at the very top of the mountain and roaring up to the clouds.

LaShawn braced his paws against the rock. He held his head up. He opened his mouth wide, ready to let out a big roar. LaShawn sucked in a big breath. But when he let it out, all that he heard was a little meow.

Anora looked out her window. It was a beautiful day on Ahway Island. The sun was shining and the sky was blue with just a sprinkling of white fluffy clouds. As Anora gazed out at the big field behind her house, she saw that the grass was dotted everywhere with yellow. Dandelions! The fuzzy flowers had opened overnight, changing the field from bright green to a lively yellow.

“Ooh!” thought Anora. “This looks like fun!” Anora quickly left the window and eagerly asked her mom, Stacy, if she could go outside and play. As soon as her mom said yes, Anora zipped outside to the field.

    Dragon’s Surprise Visitors Excerpt:

Dragon blinked in surprise, then peered out of the entrance of the cave, wondering who would be out in the storm. Usually, humans were not this deep in the forest when there was a storm.

There were three kids outside, all of whom Dragon recognized from social gatherings in the Ahway Island town but didn’t know well. Their names were JJ, Christian, and Marie. They were on bicycles and were soaking wet. They must have been out riding their bikes when the storm began, Dragon thought.
