Traditionally celebrated by dressing up as your favorite ghouls and ghosts the holiday actually has a long and storied past. The roots of this candy-filled celebration of terror go far back into the history of Celtic tradition where the holiday was known as Samhain and was a time where the world of the spirits and gods would cross over into the mortal plane. From that time the holiday has gone through many transformations to become what we see today. But is there something more sinister that brought the holiday into the American mainstream? What part did Big Candy play when it came to the popularization of trick-or-treating? Even more interesting, is there evidence that there has there been some sort of unholy plot to reduce the size of Halloween candy over the years? Join the Theorists as they bring you full-size KitKat conspiracies on...The Story of Halloween. Disclaimer: In this case file I mispronounced the Celtic holiday Sow-win as Samhain. Just go with it. Also, while we’re on the topic of mispronunciations, a concerning number of our listeners seem to believe Braden, spelled BRA-DEN, is pronounced Brandon or Brendan. I’d like to take this opportunity to let everyone know it’s pronounced “Craig”. Thank you. The family consisted of Andreas the 63-year-old patriarch of the family, his 72-year-old wife Cazilia, their 35-year-old daughter Viktoria and her 2 children ages 7 and 2. The entire family was found to be brutally murdered on April 4th of that year. Leading up to their murders, the family was the subject of many rumors and town gossip mostly surrounding the parentage of Viktoria’s 2-year-old son Josef. Members of the family had reported strange happenings around the property. Sightings of a strange mustached man in the forests surrounding the farm and footsteps in the attic had driven the family maid to leave the employment of the Grubers after suffering several nights of sleeplessness due to this. There were even reports of strange footprints in the snow that seemed to disappear into thin air. Were the Gruber’s the victims of something supernatural? A vicious serial killer? Or was the true murderer someone closer to home? Evidence suggests that humans were crossing the open seas as early as 65,000 years ago. Legends of monsters and strange creatures sighted upon the high seas are as plentiful as they are varied. The deep waters of the world were fabled habitats of sea serpents, krakens, and gods. Tales from around the world feature aquatic beings that were known to have both attributes of fish and humans. Sirens, rusalka, and ningyo are just a few of the names that these fabled half-human half-fish creatures are known by. Recorded sightings of these aquatic hybrids have spanned human history from the golden age of sail and exploration all the way until as recently as 2009. Are these elusive beings heralds of disaster, set on luring sailors to watery graves? Are they simply cases of mistaken identity stemming from dehydration and long periods out to sea? Or are they, as some scientists believe, a remnant offshoot of our own evolutionary history? • Case File 111-Stargates
The Sumerians were the earliest known human civilization to inhabit southern Mesopotamia. Their cities and culture flourished for well over 2000 years. They were the pioneers in ancient mathematics, sciences, and engineering. Although, much of what we know about them comes from fragmented stone tablets and excavations of their marvelous ziggurats. Controversial author and historian Zecharia Sitchin proposed that the reason for the impressive accomplishments of the Sumerians was their contact with an ancient extraterrestrial race known as the Annunaki. According to Sitchin’s translations of ancient Sumerian texts these beings came from another planet known as Nibiru, which passed close to the Earth every 3,600 years. The Annunaki were a space faring race, with ships capable of landing and taking off into orbit around the planet Earth. Additionally, some historians have claimed to have uncovered an alternate form of transportation used by the Annunaki. A system of portals that could instantaneously transport high ranking Annunaki to different locations all over the planet. It has even been proposed by some scholars that this technology may have been uncovered in the ancient Sumerian capital city of Ur in Southern Iraq in the early 2000’s and was perhaps the impetus for the Iraq War.
