How we think about certain things can either keep us in our place of darkness or can help us find our way out. In this continuation from last week’s episode (“This Was NOT in My Plan!”) we look at four more keys that can help unlock the door to the prison cell of our suffocating grief.
The four keys are:
There are many more keys, but these are the ones discussed in this episode.
Remember, this is a process, a marathon. You may not be ready for all of these keys yet, but at least you will know that you can use them when you feel you need another breakthrough on this journey.

Grieving Parents Sharing Hope (GPS Hope) is here to walk with parents through the darkness of child-loss, guiding them to a place of hope, light and purpose.
It is a safe place for anyone who has lost a child from this earth. There is no shame or judgment in where you are in this journey, including if you are struggling in your relationship with God or your faith has been completely shattered.
It was certainly never in our plan to have a child leave this earth ahead of us. But that is what happened to many of us, and it changes everything.
It may have blindsided us, but it didn’t take God by surprise. Even before your child was thought in your mind, He knew how many days he or she would have here on this earth.
We can’t move forward without hope. So how do we get that hope to be able to start working our way out of the darkness? Is it even possible?

The death of our child gives us so many mixed emotions about God. Here are just some of them:
These are all talked about in this episode with Wayne Jacobson, which is an edited version of our live discussion on YouTube for Grieving Parents Sharing Hope Together in May 2020.
We are all on a journey, and we are all at different places. If being angry with God is something you struggle with, it’s okay.
Wayne served as a pastor for twenty years and was also a contributing editor to Leadership Journal. As the director of Lifestream Ministries, he now travels the world helping people learn to live deeply in the life of Jesus and share it freely with others. He has written and worked with others on many books about spiritual intimacy and relational community, including He Loves Me, So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore, A Man Like No Other, and The Shack.
Wayne is also a mediator on governmental issues involving church and state in educational issues and recently released the coauthored book A Language of Healing for a Polarized Nation.
He lives in Newbury Park, California with his wife of over forty years and enjoys his children and grandchildren.

In the last seven weeks, we have been in a series of people in the Bible who lost a child.
We have looked at
• Adam and Eve who were the parents of the first person who died in the Bible (#49: The First Death in the Bible was a Son Who Was Murdered)
This will be the last episode of this series.
We all had hopes and plans for the future of our children. No matter the age of the death of our child, none of us planned for our own future to not include our child who is no longer here with us.
There are times that an entire group of children are wiped out such as mass shootings.) Unfortunately, this isn’t new. In this episode, we look at a couple of groups in the Bible, who as a mass of parents, had that future taken from them in an instant.
Even if our children died in the same or similar way of others, some of the issues we deal with may be the same, but our individual grief is still unique and different than any other person’s grief.
There are things we can do, to help ourselves, which are shared with the listeners, including making sure we are connected to others who are ahead of us on this journey.

This is part of the series People in the Bible Who Lost a Child. In this episode, we are going to look at two dads, who had their children returned to them while still on this earth; Jacob in the Old Testament, and Jairus in the New Testament.
It would be easy for us to compare the fact that we didn’t get to have our children back and be bitter or angry about it. But that would prevent us from seeing there are things we can discover in these two families that will help us in our own deep loss and grief.
God has the final word on everything. Even when it seems like God has lost control, it isn’t true. Death is not the end, it is a door to the next life, and we will only be separated from our children for a short time, compared to eternity.
