Today on Cup of Hope I share the lyrics to the song, Pretty Amazing Grace by Neil Diamond. This song has a special place in my heart - and my dad's heart. My dad introduced me to this song shortly before my brother went into the ICU, and passed from this life a couple of weeks later.  God's grace, is the only thing worth living for. 

God's grace fills us up, it removes the emptiness we feel. Canyons, a song written by Cory Asbury has meant a lot to me. It has reminded me of God's love for me. I paints a beautiful picture of the never-ending love of God.  Ephesians 3:18-19 supports the lyrics and John15:13 as well.

We are told not to covet our neighbors house, possessions, job, etc.  Covet in essence means that we desire what someone else has.   If we are busy wanting what others have we miss out on the blessing of what God has given us. 

Covetousness leads to emptiness, it leads to disappointment and leads to envy - none of which produce anything positive in our lives.

Today on Morning Cup of Hope we talk about the 9th of the 10 Commandments. God instructs us to not give false testimony against our neighbor.   What exactly is a false testimony? Of course, there is the blatant lying about someone. But there is also exaggeration of stories to make the person look worse that what actually happened in order for the other persons agenda to be pushed.  

Exaggerations are lies. Exaggerations are false testimonies - especially when the purpose is to make someone else look smaller and us to look better or bigger.

On today's Cup of Hope we talk about the commandment - do not steal. 

Seems obvious right - don't take what doesn't belong to you. But the thing is, there are 2 sides to stealing.  Withholding is also a form a stealing. Not giving someone what they are owed - especially God - is a form of stealing. This is the area that I struggle with - more than taking what doesn't belong to me.  How about you?

Today on Cup of Hope we talk adultery. Yep. That's right. We talk about it not with pointing fingers, but with the understanding that adultery could happen to any of us - because it has to do with the heart.  

Behaviors and actions are symptoms of our hearts condition. And the heart is really what Jesus cares about and shares with us from Matthew 5: 27-28.

One of the seemingly more obvious commands, do not murder is given - which means that what seems obvious, is apparently not so obvious - but also that there is a deeper command.  Jesus speaks to the heart of men and women - the heart posture that leads to murder - is anger and hate.  See Matthew 5:21​-22.

Today on Cup of Hope we talk through the commandment to honor parents! Honoring our parents comes from the desire to honor God, obey him and his commands for us.   Honoring our parents isn't about what they have done or what they deserve, it is about honoring them...because God said so. He doesn't ask us how we feel about it. But along with this command comes a promise!  It is a promise of a long life! And the possession of the land He will give us!
