  • 102. Stranger Things and Shining Girls And X-Men, Oh My! Or Andrew Learns About Mad Libs

Episode 102 - Stranger Things and Shining Girls And X-Men, Oh My! Or Andrew Learns About Mad Libs

Back to their slightly less structured selves this week, the guys burn through an extended "what they've watched" segment. This, as you'd imagine, leads to some tangents and general shenanigans. It also leads to a remarkably interesting talk about the X-Men films. In the second half, they guys play some games of Pete's design that once again lead to some fun tangents. The show finishes off with a fun game of Mad Libs which, somehow Andrew has never experienced before. Canadians, amirite? As always, thank you for watching. We hope you enjoy this one and leave us a comment or two to let us know how great we are. Pete really needs your support. Andrew is great, so maybe you don't have to remind the other guys how much cooler he is. Kevin's a pain in the ass and probably needs your affection, but he'll never admit and will probably mock you for it. Andy wasn't here this week so you or your mom are welcome to leave a comment about how that effected either of you on an emotional level. It was probably traumatic one way or another. Oh and dont forget to like and subscribe!!

  • 101. A Tribute To Ray Liotta Or Structure - We Did It (Mostly)
The guys are back this week and trying something new - structure. Pete runs the guys through an ordered list of topics. Everyone gets to focus on one thing and Kevin breaks down the week in news. That starts off as a treat with the Star Wars Celebration and then goes down the glory road with a remembrance of Ray Liotta. That conversation is generally upbeat and respectful to Ray, but it gets really dark there at the end. But, really, who is surprised. As always, thank you for listening or watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to like and subscribe. Leave a comment if you have some suggestions or just to let us know that the restraining order is still in effect and Andy has to stay away from your mom's house. We'll pass on the message…

  • 100. The Century Mark or Pete and Kevin Reminisce Until Andrew Saves the Day
On the 100th episode, Pete and Kevin shed not only the culture, but the pop, too. Rather than talk about anything current, they go sentimental route and reminisce about their podcast journeys. Before they get there, though, they start getting more woke than they have any right to be. When they finish looking back, they start to look ahead, but not before going on a Trek tangent which is a prelude to a future episode. After that, they fall in line and start discussing the future of the show. This will give you a look into how we plan a show. You know, that insight you never asked for… but it's fun, I swear. Watch and enjoy this week. Next week it's back to normal episodes but we wanted to give you a look behind the curtain for episode 100! As always, like and subscribe. I usually make a crack about your mom and Andy at this point, but this being a different kind of episode than usual, I'll leave you to come up with your own joke. Hint: Andy and your mom is always comedy gold…

  • 99. It's A MARVELously STRANGE MOON KNIGHT or Kevin Apologizes Profusely For His Transgressions

The four horsemen of the nerdpocalypse get together and discuss the most recent things from the MCU: the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, Moon Knight and Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Dont let the acceptable run time fool you, there are tangents a'plenty as the proverbial conductors strain to keep everything on track.

If you see only one movie this year, that's fine because this is a podcast and your mom really wants you to listen to it. Tell her we said Hi!

  • 98. Did The Batman Fix the DCEU? or Kevin Drifts Away Like An Enya Song

You get something special this week: A slight peak behind the curtain. A portion of the begining of this episode are some preshow antics and the boys dicussing new format possibly. Let us know what you think of the ideas.

The guys kick off the official show with some good stories. Pete shares a story about a trip to the local live theatre. If you participated in theatre at any point, you'll really dig this story. If you didn't, just treat it like your spouses Christmas party and laugh when everyone else laughs. It will be over soon... This week, Andrew talks about the classic film, The Hurt Locker. This leads to a quick discussion about how much he looks like Anthony Mackie. And, let's be honest, you've never seen them both in the same place at the same time, have you? Pete then takes the guys into the big talk of the day, The Batman. For the first time in a long time, the guys actually like a DC film! Yes, there are some issues, but overall it is a great film by DC standards which feels like such a dirty thing to say. After they share their love for DC, Pete discusses Winning Time, Minx, and the cancelled Netflix beauty, Teenage Bounty Hunters. All of these shows come with high recommendations from Pete, but you can actually buy that Teenage Bounty Hunters is good because Kevin agrees! Kevin finishes us off with FROM and Yellowjackets. He glosses over FROM, as he plans for a full review next week. But he digs deep into Yellowjackets. Both shows are great, so tune in next week for some FROM talk! As always, thank you for watching. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already. I mean, how have you not? All the cool kids are doing it. And by cool kids we probably mean that kid that doesn't leave his basement and is covered in Cheeto dust. But Cheeto's are cool. You know they are!

And then as always.....come get LOST with us!

  • 97. Dark Mirror and the New DCEU or Pete Saves You Time by Not Showing Up
This week, the guys manage to keep it tight(ish). With Pete out, there's only Kevin and the Andy's to make this machine go. After last weeks marathon, the guys were happy to keep it tight. Andrew starts it off with a discussion that heavily centers on one if his favorite genre's, Anime. Of course he covers Attack on Titan, but he also covers what he does and doesn't love in the genre in general. It's a cool conversation for anyone that loves anime or might just have a passing interest, as there are a few core anime philosophies covered here. Andy then starts his portion off with a discussion of Dark Mirror which triggers Andrew's love for that show, too. We are really starting to get into the heart of who Andrew is, it seems... But back to Andy. He next talks about having watched some DCEU films which is never a good idea on this show. Kevin, having watched very little uses Andy's DCEU topic to discuss the latest reports coming from the Warner/Discovery merger and the plans for the future of the DCEU. While it's a dead horse that has beaten so many times, the guys just come after it again. With no Pete, the episode comes in under 2 hours and is much more palatable, though you still have to deal with Kevin. If you make it through this one, please leave a like or a comment and subscribe if you enjoyed it. We love the company. If you did like it, please note that we do apologize in advance. Pete will be back next week...

  • 96. Making Peace with Tangents or Pete Watched Little and Discussed Much
This week on the show, Pete kicks things off in the Wayback Machine by talking Ted Lasso. Andrew hasn't watched it so Pete and Kevin took advantage of this chance to talk about Ted Lasso for an eternity. As per the usual, Ted Lasso talk leads to talk of Schitts Creek which Pete has, somehow, not watched. Pete then discusses the Adam Sandler classic Big Daddy. Next up comes an impressive tangential spiral. Pete deftly (?) takes us a journey from Yellowstone to the 90's Ice Cube/Omar Epps vehicle, Higher Learning. This obviously leads to talk of the 2010 film Country Strong. That's right. Pete navigated from 90's hip hop films to 2010 country music films. It makes perfect sense… The guys take advantage of the fact that both Pete and Kevin watched Peacemaker to use that as a transition into what Kevin's been watching. After a very honest and confusing discussion of that show, Kevin moves on to talking about the season finale of Severance. Andrew finishes things off (almost) by talking about another 90's flick, Deep Blue Sea. It's a classic so that discussion is a lot of fun. He then moves on to talk of Attack on Titan and a plea to anyone listening to give the show a watch. After that, Pete takes one more chance to send us back in time and discusses the fantastic film, Galaxy Quest and it's recent documentary. And if that wasn't enough of these three for you, you get close to an hour and a half of LOST discussion! As always, we hope you enjoy the show. It doesn't show in the final product, but this was a BEAST. 5 hours of recording led to this masterwork. If you haven't already, don't forget to like and subscribe. If you haven't already, tell your friends to give it a watch/listen. If they are really your friends, they will still talk to you afterwards!

  • 95. A Tribute to Bruce Willis or Zoom Makes a Mockery of the Recording Process
This week is eventful in so many ways. For the first time in a long time, both Andy and Andrew are present. And for another first time in a long time moment, Pete isn't there to start the show. Sadly, he does show up, but the And(y)(rew)s stick around anyways. It's important to note that Kevin's Zoom recording crashed several times during this episode so any bad cuts can be blamed on Zoom, not Kevin and Pete's poor editing skills. There's no LOST talk this week so the guys start off right away with the list of things they've watched. The list is relatively extensive and Pete gets in early enough to share his list A trend he will carry out throughout the episode, despite being given a specific window in which to share. The second half of the show is dedicated to the career of beloved actor, Bruce Willis. The guys attempt to list off their favorite BW moments, as Pete interjects Bruce's film credits just before anyone can list their own favorites. Despite the chaos, it does lead to some great discussion about the ma's career. Also, stay 'til the end for another Deep thoughts segment as Andy attempts to defend Morbius by invoking Venom. Yeah, it sounded crazy to us, too. As always, thank you for listening/watching and thank you for subscribing. I mean, you have subscribed by now, right? For every new subscriber we get, Sally Struthers will pretend to take donations for staving children and Sarah McLachlan will pet a puppy in a cage instead of singing music so depressing the dog just wants to give up. Do your part, people!

  • 94.The Oscars or Andrew Tolerates 2 Woke White Guys
94.The Oscars or Andrew Tolerates 2 Woke White Guys This week, the show kicks off with two jokes. Thanks to the magic of editing, we only subject you to one. And for that, I still apologize. That gets the guys into a very straight forward segment where the guys discuss the Oscars and make their picks for each category. Except they make it far too complicated and, much like Guy Fieri with flavor, they head off to Tangent Town. Just for fun this week, Pete and Kevin somehow get incredibly woke and subject Andrew to their idiotic takes on the world. As always, Andrew is a true champ and doesn't show just how disappointed he is in them as human beings. Also, Andy is out this week, so at least you now know this episode could have actually been longer… In LOST talk this week, the guys cover the final 3 episodes, the 3 part season finale, of season 1 and give their thoughts on both those episodes and what they expect to see rolling into season 2. Again, Andy isn't here to participate so we have to assume he believes this is a drug induced waking nightmare set forth by the US government. His words, not mine (but actually mine). As always, thank you for watching, listening, downloading and sharing. You are sharing right? Treat this like Chicken Pox and spread it around to everyone you know. They'll build up an immunity and won't have to be scared next time they listen. You are doing a public service!

  • 93. To Boldly Go Where We've All Gone Before
If you came here looking for a Star Trek Episode then… Sike!!! But we do talk for a minute about Psych, which has appearances from both George Takei and William Shatner. See how we bring it around? This week the guys, without planning it, mostly talk about older shows or shows they've already talked about. Don't worry, that makes it no less interesting. Sadly, it doesn't make it any MORE interesting, either. Kevin starts by talking about a show he's already watched and then recommends someone else's podcast. Look, we're here to spread the love. Don't hate! Everything spirals from here and the guys end up here on memory lane for most of their watching. But don't worry, it's a fun Sunday drive! The show finishes with a monster sized LOST discussion, as the guys are working towards the 3 part finale. Those week has the guys covering episodes 19-22 and it's a lot of information. These fools are sucked in now. They don't know what they're in for! This is a long one, but if you make it through, you deserve a prize. We aren't giving them away, but go ahead and grab a quarter and head to your local bowling alley. One of those machines by the front doors will have the perfect prize! As always, thanks for watching and/or listening. We're doing our best. That's right. Your getting our best. We'd apologize but our egos are just too big. Have a great week and tell your friends we're very funny and very handsome and that they should listen. Sure it's a lie, but if you can't punk your friends once in a while, are they really your friends?

About All Pop, No Culture

From the publisher's feed

Our first 81 episodes are what we now consider APNC 1.0 with our original crew: Opie, Pete, Kevin, Alex, and later, David. Through the onset of COVID and life changes, the podcast began to evolve. It was the end of an era, but we loved this crew and the memories we made. You'll notice that our earliest episodes are not on YouTube. The addition of video was never in the plans, but came to life as a surprise side effect of COVID.
