    #DementiaandSilience  #ResonantSileneceTechnique  #DementiaSymptomsImprove

Lori La Bey talks with Miriam Fein, the creator of Resonant Silence Technique (RST)®. Miriam experienced the power of restorative group silence, and by using gentle tones that led to periods of silence, she created the Resonant Silence Technique® (RST) for her group work with individuals with dementia. She does RST training for people living with dementia, family dementia caregivers, and gives workshops on RST as a path to inner peace for people without dementia. Her working title for her program is "Quiet Mind Dementia Relief, Cognitive Improvement and Joy." This is also the title of her book.

    LEARN:

    •  What the Resonant Silence Technique (RST) ® is.
    • Why is silence so vital for those with dementia?
    • How RST can change the way we understand what people with dementia need in order to heal.
    • How family and professional caregivers benefit from RST exercises.
    • The benefits of bringing RST’s quieting, meditative experience to the residents of assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and memory care centers.

    #CaringForMom  #ADaughtersJourney #DementiaCare

Lori La Bey talks with Sonya Jury, a board member for the Alzheimer’s Association, Heart of America Chapter, and the author of Mom Forgot My Birthday: A Daughter’s Journey Through Alzheimer’s. Her book is a raw "how-not-to" guide for navigating the complexities of caregiving. Sonya draws on her personal experiences with her mother, Dean, and she provides caregivers with the information she wishes she’d had before her mother was diagnosed.

    Learn:

    • About experiences that shift people from a supportive caregiver to a primary caregiver, and how that happened.
    • About Sonya's “How-not-to” guide, and she tells us why she wrote it this way, and also shares a few of the lessons she learned that she hopes others don’t have to go through.
    • What you can expect from Sonya’s book regarding:
      • - Early-Stage Alzheimer’s (mild)
      • - Middle-Stage Alzheimer’s (moderate)
      • - Late-Stage Alzheimer’s (severe)
    • Key differences between these stages from a caregiving perspective
    • Some key resources available to caregivers that weren’t available a decade ago.

When the Caregiver Becomes the Predator: One Son's Fight to Uncover the Truth

    #FinancialAbuse #CaregiverTips #ProtectYourFamily

Lori La Bey talks with Charles Wallace, who goes by Chip, about the financial abuse by a caregiver who stole nearly $1 million from his mother with dementia over four years. He hopes this will help other families prevent their loved ones' life savings from being stolen. Chip leveraged his 15-year career in banking and finance and taught himself forensic investigation to uncover the loss. He wrote the book  The Caregiver's Game to help other families from falling victim to financial abuse.

    Learn:

    • How Charles’ mother was taken advantage of and financially abused
    • Get your paperwork in order long before you need it, as it might be too late at that point, and most likely, far more expensive.
      • Power of Attorney (POA)
      • Healthcare Directive
      • A Will or Trust
    • Use a specialist to coordinate your paperwork, like an Elder law Attorney.
    • Don’t turn everything over to someone else without actively monitoring things
    • Keep your connections to important contacts so they know you are the one in control, and the caregiver is an employee only, not one in charge of the finances and medical decisions.
      • Doctors
      • Attorneys
      • Financial Planners
      • Bankers
    • Bottom line: don’t outsource trust!

  • OPEN MIC Exposes The Truth About Repetitive Phone Calls & A Solution

OPEN MIC  Exposes The Truth About Repetitive Phone Calls & A Solution

Today, Kirstin Thomas, Co-founder of KindredMind, joins our host, Lori La Bey, to share their new technology leveraging AI to reduce caregiver stress and increase the comfort of a person living with dementia.

If you are caring for a loved one living with dementia, you most likely have dealt with repetitive behavior at one time or another. Repeated phone calls are one of the things we hear from families constantly, which causes them great stress and guilt. Not having the time to answer and respond to a loved one’s calls or not knowing how to calm them down and remove the anxiety they are feeling over what they keep asking over and over again. Well, it just gets overwhelming.

Yet what we don’t discuss much is what’s behind the need for these repetitive calls. Today, Kirstin will give us some great insights as to the “whys” and a solution, KindredMind, that she created due to her own experience caring for her mother, who would sometimes call her 10 times before lunch.

  • Awakenings In Real Life with Dan Cohen

Awakenings In Real Life with Dan Cohen

    #Awakenings #ClaritywithDementia #Lucidity

Lori La Bey talks with Dan Cohen, a dynamic entrepreneur with over twenty-five years of experience and a deep passion for brand building. Dan is recognized for his strategic approach and ability to foster strong, lasting relationships. With the release of his book, Awakenings In Real Life, he tells the story of his dad’s awakening from his dementia. When his father awoke, it woke Dan up too. Dan also hosts a podcast with the same name.

After Dan’s family experienced his dad's awakening from dementia in 2015, Dan felt that he had to share this experience with the world. Dan quickly posted an article that has been read by hundreds of thousands of families and caregivers who were dealing with Alzheimer's / Dementia and searching for hope. Dan’s father passed away in 2016, but his awakening stayed with him. It became the spark that ignited his own awakening, which turned into the book “Awakenings In Real Life”. In the book, Dan draws on a lifetime of lessons from his father’s humor, toughness, and compassion, sharing family stories of love, inspiration, and hope.

Dan started the “Awakenings In Real Life” podcast, which tells inspiring stories of transformation, meaning, and hope. While people typically think of an Awakening as a “Getting Up” or “Spiritual” or “Religious” in nature, an “Awakening” is also an awareness, recognition, or realization of something. Dan Cohen shares stories of people awakening and then triumphing over bullying, addiction, disability, illness, trauma, loss, near-death experiences, and more.
