Mary welcomes back Flynn Huseby to talk about the ascension of Jesus Christ and the beginnings of the church. Here on the podcast we have paid special attention to the events of Holy Week, the Road to Emmaus, and the beginnings of the church – and the confusion it sent through the believing Jewish religious system/believing community of the day. Speaking of systems, along comes the church and now the disciples are commissioned to make disciples as well. So much going on in this stretch of time, and yet here in the 21st century the church is still going. But what does it look like? What was it supposed to look like? We discuss the main categories in which the church has strayed from the simplicity of following Christ – a community of saints under the headship of the Lord Jesus, serving and lifting one another up, walking each other home. Evangelicalism more and more looks less like the original intent, and the enemy of our souls has been hard at work for centuries making sure that is true. Looking in the mirror as a church is never easy, but Flynn helps us sort a few things out.

In today’s edition of SUFTT, we discuss the global attention on the nation of Israel, the only sovereign nation that seems to constantly be under the world’s microscope. As tragic as the incidences of campus antisemitism have been, this hateful ideology shows no sign of letting up. Just this week, a warning was issued for Jews and Israelis to be careful in Canada, and to limit their outward expressions of their faith and culture. This is something that many of us never thought we would see only a generation removed from the Holocaust era. What does the Bible say about this? Should the church be surprised? No, and at the very least, show increasing support for Israel and our local Jewish communities of faith, asking God what we might do to come alongside them. Then we talk about that mischievous AI, which appears to have a mind of its own in bypassing its own shut-down commands. Next, we cover the upcoming pride month by learning that many corporations are backing off from supporting that agenda, largely due to push back from the more morally minded among us. Finally, we look at paganism in the public schools, being forced on all students who find themselves unable to object. Time to hold these schools systems accountable. A full hour of headlines for the last week in May, 2025.

Dr. JB Hixson
Mary welcomes back JB Hixson today to discuss discipleship. What does it mean to disciple, or be discipled? And why didn’t Jesus say, “go and make converts“? Much of the church equates the two but they are not the same concept. What exactly is a disciple? If we start there, it will be easier to define discipleship; but the general idea at some juncture is about a relationship, and from that comes a life-long process of learning, and growing, and resembling Jesus. Considering the seemingly stunted growth of so many church-goers, we might be able to deduct that in addition to a lack of Bible knowledge, there is little to no discipling going on, and where there is, depth is lacking. What are some of the ways the church can rectify this? How can we be more engaged with one another instead of disengaged? How does it translate into making disciples of all nations? Converts, yes. Disciples, yes. The church needs to get busy on the Great Commission! A thoughtful hour with JB.

Mary welcomes Rob Yardley to the podcast, Rob is a true servant in the church with the heart of a pastor and theologian. Rob has served on several boards of note and continues to do so – from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to ICR to Thru the Bible with J Vernon McGee. His new role as Executive Director of The Berean Call is one that is dear to his heart because of his friendship with the late Dave Hunt, and of course T.A. McMahon, who has recently retired. When putting godly men like Dave Hunt, TA, Henry Morris, and J Vernon side by side we get a picture of 20th century men that God greatly used. We will look at the legacies of each one, and talk about what it means to be a Berean in 2025. Where are today’s great apologists and theologians? A thoughtful hour with a thoughtful brother.

Mary welcomes back historian William Federer to talk about the unthinkable: the encroachment of Islam in America – in alarming ways. In 2006, Keith Ellison became the first Muslim elected to Congress. He swore his oath on the Qua’ran. Today in Texas, two Islamic lawmakers are leading the Pakistainification of the Lone Star State. How Islam is affecting our world here in 2025 is every bit as important as it was back in the 7th century. Cities like Pflugerville, Plano, and Sugarland Texas are finding out just how the idea that Islam is just another religion that should be tolerated is so dangerous. The flag of Islamic dominance is being planted in our nation and who is sounding the alarm? The cost of our silence, starting at the ballot box, is going up by the hour. William Federer is a nationally known speaker, best-selling author, and president of Amerisearch, Inc., a publishing company dedicated to researching America’s heritage. His AMERICAN MINUTE radio feature is broadcast daily across America and by the Internet. His Faith in History television airs on the TCT Network on stations across America. You can find his many resources here. You can also sign up to receive American Minute in your email box.

Today Mary welcomes Dr. Tim Chaffey to discuss the controversial Hebrew Roots Movement. Far from simply trying to understand the Jewish roots of the Bible, this movement seeks to answer the question about what happens when Gentiles and Jews get saved: do Gentiles become Jews? For centuries, the people of God were Jews, with the exception of some Gentiles who came to faith in the God of Israel. The early church consisted mostly of Jewish believers in Jesus, but when the gospel went to the Gentiles, there was a new dynamic that, unfortunately, even led some to believe that Christians were the new Israel and now received all the promises of God solely. This teaching continues today across the church spectrum. Why is there so much confusion about who is who, when the epistles clearly address these things head on? But with the HRM, there is even more confusion regarding the Mosaic Law, the feasts of Israel, who is a Jew, and what is Israel. Here to help us sort it all out is Dr. Chaffey, whose comprehensive article on the subject can be found here.

PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER
Mary welcomes back Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel Amityville, NY to talk about his latest book, “Your Greatest Patriotic Duty”. Our discussion covers a variety of topics from voting, to political polarization, to evangelism to revival. Christians often disengage from the election process, stating that the lesser of two evils in candidates is no choice at all. When it comes to matters of conscience, Christians vary widely and voting is probably at the top of their list. But even when it comes to thankfulness for our relatively free and peaceful lives, Christians ought to engage in the process. The issues are important, from pro-life to being able to share the gospel freely. We also talk about revival. What is it? Does the Bible teach or prophesy about it? How might it look today, in a church that is more engaged in deception, pride and false teaching than it is engaged in evangelism. A thoughtful hour. Pastor Claude presently serves as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Hope, a church he has served from its beginning in 1993. He served bi-vocationally as a pastor and social worker for 16 years. He serves as a chaplain on the New York State Chaplaincy Task Force. His latest work is “Your Greatest Patriotic Duty”, his 30th book.

In the first half of today’s podcast, Mary chats with Dr. Ted Baehr, long-time authority on the media and the importance of having standards and guardrails in place to ensure that our kids are mentally and emotionally equipped to live as spiritually and socially healthy adults. Unfortunately, many Christian parents also partake in morally bankrupt, dark media that affects their walk with Christ and their day to day family life. Should families be arguing daily about their kids’ time on smart devices? Might that be a sign of an unhealthy view and place of entertainment in our households? Dr. Ted is Founder and Publisher of MOVIEGUIDE®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment and Chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® ministry, as well as a noted critic, educator, lecturer, and media pundit. His life’s purpose is to be used of God to redeem the values of the media while educating audiences on how to use discernment in selecting their entertainment. Movieguide has 4,000+ Faith Based Articles and Movie Reviews to help families navigate today’s media. Following the chat with Ted, we continue to talk about media and families and how to protect our dearest gifts – the youngsters God has entrusted us with.

Mary welcomes back Paul Scharf of Friends of Israel Ministry, an organization with over 87 years of support for Israel. On this Valentine’s Day, we talk about loving the things God loves with an everlasting love: Israel. What are some of the Scriptural points that tell us the what and why of God’s care for Israel? Do we ever stop to realize all the ways God has blessed all nations through them, these “People of the Book”? Why does this even matter, and why do many churches not share God’s heart for her, even though as new creatures we should have that love for Israel? We talk about dispensationalism, Gaza, Trump, hostages, Zionism, and more. Paul is a church ministries representative for Friends of Israel based in Columbus, WI, and serving in the Midwest. He speaks regularly about Israel, Bible prophecy and many other topics in churches and Bible conferences all across the Midwest and around the country.

[Original airdate: 2/13/24] Mary Danielsen chats with Carl Kerby about the American Church, in particular when it comes to worldviews. Every human has one, and they largely revolve around such weighty issues as, what is reality? What is a person? What happens when we die? What is the nature of right and wrong? Philosophers have undertaken the answers to those questions for centuries, and its safe to say everyone has grappled with these at some point. But in the church, the notion of “worldview” becomes much more narrow – and looking into the worldview of those who shepherd God’s flock can be, in this age, a bit disappointing. What are the factors that determine a Christian worldview and whether those who lead God’s people get it right, ie, live by every word? Pastors may not be responsible for the sins of a culture, but they do have the responsibility to lead God’s people via truth that is not subjective. Download their free app – click here.
