Social media is a fascinating environment. One in particular asks us “What’s on your mind?”, and then proceeds to make value judgments when we dare to tell. Be that as it may, many of us in the church have stuff on our mind too, especially when church doesn’t seem to match up with the biblical parameters and suggestions/commands. Then after mulling that for a bit, we tend to resign ourselves to the fact that people have changed, the culture has changed too much to expect church not to have. But wait, God never changes. The culture will always change. Does that give us the right to change the church? To bring the culture inside to testify of the popular way? Why no, it doesn’t. So in observing something hopefully all believers do every Sunday morning, how can we not have questions and observations? Why is this the object of discussion among believers and yet nothing ever changes? Can we entertain (oops wrong word maybe) the idea that an Acts church is still an option? Today Mary looks at all the ways that believers have handed their fellowships over to corporations and methods and suggests one way that might reverse the trends.

Originally aired 2/14/25: Mary welcomes back Paul Scharf of Friends of Israel Ministry, an organization with over 87 years of support for Israel. On this Valentine’s Day, we talk about loving the things God loves with an everlasting love: Israel. What are some of the Scriptural points that tell us the what and why of God’s care for Israel? Do we ever stop to realize all the ways God has blessed all nations through them, these “People of the Book”? Why does this even matter, and why do many churches not share God’s heart for her, even though as new creatures we should have that love for Israel? We talk about dispensationalism, Gaza, Trump, hostages, Zionism, and more. Paul is a church ministries representative for Friends of Israel based in Columbus, WI, and serving in the Midwest. He speaks regularly about Israel, Bible prophecy and many other topics in churches and Bible conferences all across the Midwest and around the country.

Dr. JB Hixson
Mary welcomes back JB Hixson to explore a Bible topic that is both personal and practical: surrendering fully to Jesus. In John 3:29-30, we read, He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. John was said by Jesus to be the greatest among those born of women, but the least in the kingdom. Now that is a conundrum and yet we understand the unique position John was in for all of history, and that he never saw the crucifixion or resurrection. So let’s get practical: what does that mean to decrease and give Jesus preeminence in our lives? What does this look like as the ultimate ministry model? How is the church doing on that front when we consider all the glory some ministries take for themselves? A timely hour with JB.

Mary welcomes back seasoned apologist Don Veinot of Midwest Christian Outreach to talk about “sycretism” and why the majority of evangelicals embrace it to some level or another. What is syncretism? Is it those dreadful “Co-Exist” bumper stickers, or something more sinister? Syncretism is the mixing of one faith/belief system with another, it is mixing two things that aren’t supposed to go together. Accepting parts of each, but denying the whole. But the gospel cannot be divided and conquered to make us more comfortable. However, syncretism is the natural, meaning carnal, response to the Gospel. Some reject the Gospel completely. Others want to accept only part of the Gospel, merging specific aspects of it to fit their own ideas. We give quite a few examples, some of which might surprise the listener. Then we look at deconstruction – what it is and isn’t. One would hope that the one that is disappointed with orthodoxy on any level actually looked deeply into what Christianity actually teaches and then made a sober decision. Or is it emotional, a response to either God or man letting them down? A fundamental hour with Don.

We have noticed over the years that we can throw details of current affairs at Chris Quintana and he never ducks nor flinches. And so shall it be as Mary welcomes back Chris to talk about so many things. What does it mean to be “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic?” Focusing on silly plastic lounge chairs instead of lifeboats? We will ask him about that, along with what exactly Don Lemon was thinking he would encounter when he entered that church; what the protestors think it means to use a concealed carry for running toward trouble; and why Minnesota? We ask Chris what that first amendment means to these peculiar circumstances. We also look at the church’s level of discernment when it comes to charismatic excesses as they relate to the Bethel/Shawn Bolz big tale of gullibility. Also: with another Super Bowl comes another round of “He Gets Us” adverts; and finally, the dreaded mid terms. Are there ever any real winners in any given election cycle? What are we hoping for vs what we will likely get? Count on Pastor Chris to have more than one complete thought on pretty much anything.

[Originally aired 3/27/25] In the first half of today’s podcast, Mary chats with Dr. Ted Baehr, long-time authority on the media and the importance of having standards and guardrails in place to ensure that our kids are mentally and emotionally equipped to live as spiritually and socially healthy adults. Unfortunately, many Christian parents also partake in morally bankrupt, dark media that affects their walk with Christ and their day to day family life. Should families be arguing daily about their kids’ time on smart devices? Might that be a sign of an unhealthy view and place of entertainment in our households? Dr. Ted is Founder and Publisher of MOVIEGUIDE®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment and Chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® ministry, as well as a noted critic, educator, lecturer, and media pundit. His life’s purpose is to be used of God to redeem the values of the media while educating audiences on how to use discernment in selecting their entertainment. Movieguide has 4,000+ Faith Based Articles and Movie Reviews to help families navigate today’s media. Following the chat with Ted, we continue to talk about media and families and how to protect our dearest gifts – the youngsters God has entrusted us with.

Mary Danielsen
Well, we told you so: 2026 was coming. And we even counted it down on headline days. So while that’s not terribly profound, we all get a week or two to remember to number our days and God says that’s wisdom. While we’re thinking about it, we often resort to New Year’s resolutions to ease the pain of past fails. It might be related to our behaviour, our self-discipline or lack thereof, but we all understand starting fresh, turning a page. But outside of Christ, is wholesale change really just a fantasy? By February, how’s it going? If the answer is “not so well”, we have a far better way: Christian maturity. Growing up in all things unto Christ our Head. The template for all this is the church, but how is THAT going? Not so well. Nevertheless, Christ is the Head, our ever-living Head who sanctifies us by His blood, by His grace. Today we look at some perspectives on how the culture at large has returned to using pacifiers like media and self-love to go the other direction, also known as the Eternal Adolescence of the American Mind. We need grown ups in the culture, and in the church particularly. How does one influence the other? A long look at the 20th century youth cult and what we need to do to grow up.

Mary welcomes back Creationist Russ Miller to talk about the season of time we are in, which altogether looks like an end game in so many ways. Sometimes we think that the world remained somewhat static in culture and innovation until the 1800s, at which time there was an explosion of change in the 20th century. That’s not wrong, because the pace and scale of global transformation has accelerated in dramatic fashion, particularly with the Industrial and Scientific Revolutions. We also think in the church that evolution is the only thing we can think of that has continually warred against a biblical worldview. But the explosion of philosophies and religious movements have also played a huge role. We talk briefly about what those movements were and are, and then zero in on evolution in particular as the bearer of the most rotten fruit we can imagine over several categories: education, morals, socialism and Marxism, and science probably above all. An hour of dot-connecting with a highly knowledgeable creation apologist whose many Grand Staircase tours, conference sessions and church and college messages have helped to educate and build up the Christian church about the lies of old earth/evolutionary theory.

Original airdate: 6/5/25 Mary welcomes new guest Judge Phil Ginn of Southern Evangelical Seminary to discuss the critical need for apologetics – understanding it, and using what we learn. It can be like a foreign language, if you don’t use it you just might lose it. Hiding God’s Word in our hearts is critical to the articulation of biblical apologetics. We will talk about their upcoming National Apologetics Conference. Then we look at the quagmire parents have found themselves in when trying to assert their rights and opt out of perverted DEI type indoctrination. The public schools don’t want to deal with those messes, because hey, that means their students aren’t learning to be oh so tolerant of diversity and inclusion. Well, that’s on them, the schools – and parents are fighting back. Finally, we look at our government and why Trump has to deal with the O’Biden judiciary mess via activist judges. How did we get to the point that our duly elected President has his agenda hijacked at every turn? An enlightening hour with the president of SES, a former judge and very sharp regarding the Christian worldview.

Originally aired 7/10/25: Mary takes on a topic that may be hard to hear, but is necessary, and few in the church are speaking out about it. The passage is 2 Timothy 3:1-5. When the Bible talks about perilous times, we tend to think about those headlines that appear suddenly and stand the world on its head – birth pangs, wars and rumours, Israel. And yet these verses point to a peril no one wants to talk about: the human heart. And not of unbelievers, but in the church. How in the world did we get here, loving self more than God? And yet, churches are battling this ill more and more to the point where believers are staying away. Yes, lack of sound doctrine plays a part – sometimes. But when narcissism begins to work its evil throughout a church, flowing primarily from controlling and unaccountable leadership, who is watching out for the sheep? What is a “form of godliness”? Why does Paul say to avoid such? What are the qualifications for pulpit ministry? Christians tend to be gracious and put up with a lot of mischief from leadership, as long as the doctrine is sound. But what does God think about those who mistreat His people? Let’s let the Word do the talking on this one, but talk about it we must. The gentiles lord it over others, but it should “not be so among you”. A challenging hour on an elephant-in-the-room topic. PDF transcription – click here.
