  • Chris Quintana: Ecclesiastes – The Preacher, the Congregation, and the Lesson

Mary welcomes back Chris Quintana, pastor, student of the Bible, lover of truth. Chris has a way of gleaning great truths from the Scriptures. Today we take a look at the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon’s salute to vanity based on his long experiences and the rewards life offers. Something about this book will strike first time readers as not only unique in the canon, but sometimes confusing in a paradoxical way. Why should we read it? Who was Solomon and what were some of his ups and downs, the lessons he gained? We will look at the themes, the wisdom, and some of the pivotal verses. As much as Ecclesiastes can send a chill wind through our bones, Solomon’s directness and honest exhortations are really what the church needs more of in these wishy washy times.

  • Headlines: Objects in the Mirror Are Closer Than You Think

Today on Stand Up Mary takes a look at this week – this historical inaugural week – and the full stop of the engines of the progressive agenda that started even before the Clinton Mafia took over politics. Pundits are referring to Trump as one of the most significant movers and shakers of the century, even in all of American history. With such a glowing endorsement, we have to sit up and take notice of this amazing stretch of time. The younger Americans have no idea what is missing in our current cultural scene; only the olders can even begin to describe what we once experienced and now cherish. Well, at least on paper, some of that American spirit is back, and Trump has done the unimaginable. We look at some of the headlines and executive orders that have brought us to a new path. Then we switch gears and look at what that means for the prophetic landscape. We finish up by talking about the fear of the Lord, His holiness, and the eternal value of pressing on in Jesus regardless of the Great Ship of American Destiny. A new golden age? We shall see.

  • Replay – Dave Jenkins: Contentment – The Journey of a Lifetime

[Original airdate: 1/18/24] Mary Danielsen chats with author Dave Jenkins of Servants of Grace Ministries about contentment and what it means to have God be our all-in-all. Dave calls it the “journey of a lifetime” not only because our trials and difficulties can be lifelong but because God is working a great weight of glory in each of His children. What would life be like if every trial we experienced came with it lasting peace and joy? As foreign or even impossible as that may sound to us today, we are being sanctified and renewed day by day, but conditionally –  if we can learn to wait, trust, and take every thought captive. Piece of cake, right? Maybe not that simple, but very achievable by the power of the Holy Spirit. In such a malcontent world, this is a timely discussion for those going through the ups and downs of life that may included anxiety, depression, and the pitfalls of being human. [PDF Transcipt]

  • Replay – Alisa Childers: The Deconstruction of Christianity – What it is and How to Respond

[Original airdate: 1/16/24) We chat with author, blogger and speaker Alisa Childers on the topic of “deconstructing” Christianity; what it is, why it’s destructive and how to respond. With terms like “ex-vangelical” and “toxic” faith/Christianity/church being tossed around, it would appear we have a postmodern exit demographic to deal with. Is it anti-authority, the desire to not be “hemmed in” by moral imperatives, or is it something different? Counselors are standing by, not because they care about the person’s salvation, but rather getting them what they want – to be free of the Christianity they have been exposed to or raised in. In a way, it’s not surprising but at the same time, the bible tells us there is only ONE way to heaven, and that’s through Jesus Christ and what His death and resurrection mean and require of us. A thought provoking discussion designed to help those who might know and love someone in this process.

  • Headlines: The High Cost of Paying Attention

It’s headline time again, another attempt to make sense of a lot of nonsense, at least from a worldly perspective. But eternally speaking, there is more sense to it all than you might think. Today we talk about the spiritual aspect of the wildfire disaster and what some Christians think is a helpful spin but it is not. Speaking for God on any given thing is above our pay grade but that doesn’t stop people from doing it anyway. We also talk about Greenland, and how this appears to be nonsense as well, but it isn’t. Still paying attention to events, or have you bailed out of sheer exhaustion? Understandable, but there is a price to paying attention and being able to tell others what is going on, and why it matters. There is a price tag on everything the Bible calls important so we will talk invoices and costs, counting and cutting our losses. Finally, those blood moons are back in 2025. Who will get sucked into that scheme, I wonder? I hope we learned a lesson in 2015. We shall see. All that and more in a packed hour on Stand Up for the Truth.

  • Dr. Mitch Glaser: To the Jew First, and Also to the Greek

Mary welcomes Dr. Mitch Glaser, director of Chosen People Ministries since 1997. Chosen People is one of the oldest and largest Messianic missions in the US, having been founded in 1894. Today we get to know him a bit, through his testimony and also the story of Chosen People, what they believe, what they do. We will look at the current state of antisemitism, not just in the US but around the world. Also on the program, we talk about the peace process and the status of the ceasefire talks, something that President Trump has stated is essential for bringing the hostages home as soon as possible. Finally, we look at evangelizing the Jews, how best to do that in light of their rejection of the New Testament gospel. How can evangelicals bring the gospel to the Jews, many of whom reject the New Testament and also know little about the Old? Dr. Glaser also fills us in on his recent trip to Israel, the beauty and significance of the land, and the importance of understanding the political landscape and how the world views them.

  • Replay – T.A. McMahon: The Flight from Reason and the Feel-Good Church

[Original airdate 1/11/24] Mary Danielsen talks to Tom McMahon of The Berean Call about the coming strong delusion and how the church has gotten so far from reason and apologetics as to become a church based on feelings and doing what seems right. Beyond the itching ear syndrome and seeker-friendly paradigms, we will look at how crafting worship and messages around illiciting an emotional reaction is now the norm. From Bethel to political correctness and social justice, the emotion based church has taken us far afield from being able to reason about what we believe – the what AND the why. Food for thought and sound reasoning as usual from The Berean Call. Since the late 1980s, the late Dave Hunt and TA have faithfully contended for the faith once delivered to the saints.

  • Replay – Dirk Smith: Bible Distribution – God’s Word Does not Return Void

[Original airdate: 8/2/24] Mary chats with Dirk Smith today, Vice President of Eastern European Mission (EEM), begun in 1961 to get bibles into the hands of those living in the eastern Communist bloc nations. Their mission to get bibles into the hands of those still living in that region is going strong. Children, prisoners, average citizens – coming to learn of God’s plan of the ages to redeem mankind through the shed blood of our Savior. In the West, news of bibles and copies of the Ten Commandments going into public schools in Louisiana and Oklahoma is like a fresh wind blowing through the rotting school culture of the times. We talk about their publishing arm, new materials for children, and all the ways God is using EEM. An encouraging hour of good news. No matter how dark the hour, God is working.

  • Replay – Holly Pivec & Douglas Geivett: NAR, Bethel’s ‘Counterfeit Kingdom’

[Original airdate: 11/22/22] TODAY’S GUESTS: Authors, Holly Pivec and Douglas Geivett just released a new book, Counterfeit Kingdom: The Dangers of New Revelation, New Prophets, and New Age Practices on the Church. What used to be on the fringes of the church is now mainstream, and many are being influenced by it unaware. This book is a wake-up call.

Holly Pivec is an evangelical researcher of cults, sects, and new religious groups, such as the “New Apostolic Reformation” (NAR) movement. She has a master’s degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University in Southern California, where she attended and also worked. Holly and her family live in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Doug Geivett is a husband, father to two grown children, professor, author, and speaker. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from USC and teaches at Biola University and Talbot School of Theology. Doug has written or edited several books and spoken on issues related to the New Apostolic Reformation, Christian apologetics, and the Christian life to audiences all over the world.

Is there a new reformation happening in the church? It depends on who you ask. The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a popular and fast-growing new movement of Christians who emphasize signs and wonders, and teach that God is giving new revelation through new apostles and prophets. But is this biblical Christianity?

In Counterfeit Kingdom, apologists and NAR experts Holly Pivec and Douglas Geivett show how the NAR’s key tenets distort the gospel, twist the Scriptures, are influenced by New Age practices, and lead faithful Christians to shipwreck their faith. They also offer practical suggestions for readers who are already influenced by the NAR, curious about it, or concerned about loved ones who have been swept up in the movement.

  • Kyle Peart and Flynn Huseby: The Narrow Road of Truth, The Broad Path of Tradition

[Original airdate: 6/28/24] We welcome back Kyle Peart and Flynn Huseby of Once Lost Ministries, apologists and evangelists who work tirelessly to bring truth and clarity to those caught up in false teaching. Today we discuss the Catholic faith and the various aspects that are unscriptural: Tradition, relics, sacraments, purgatory, and veneration of Mary. With all the religious aspects, extra-biblical focus and gospel of good works, how is it that a Catholic can never be assured of salvation? There is a lot of busy-ness, as in all religions, but none of it ever seems to produce the fruit of repentance and a biblical understanding of the new birth. We also discuss the ecumenical bent that has long been part of this huge denomination but we have to ask ourselves, to what end? Dominionism, or something more sneaky – the desire to bring all Protestants “home to Rome”. A thoughtful discussion that will hopefully open eyes to the vanity of religiousity.
