  • Mary Danielsen: Hero-Centric, Template-Oriented, Motivational Branding

Mary is back with a solo podcast taking on the late blooming fruit of the Purpose Driven/Seeker Sensitive/motivational paradigm of the corporate branding of the church. It’s been over 20 years since the Evangelical Industrial Complex redefined what a church is, what preaching is, and the consumer approach to all of it. Where are we at? It’s not good. Even small-to-middlin’ churches have adopted the cape wearing hero style of many if not most pastors today. What is a pastor, after all? Why are so many failing to finish well? If a church isn’t teaching the Bible systematically, what are they doing? Is there a name for what people sit through every Sunday? Many sharp Christians know what is missing, but they can’t seem to name it. We name it today. We look at C. Peter Wagner and Peter Drucker, the men responsible for the Signs and Wonders movement, the NAR, and the corporate top-down, success oriented view of the pews – and it is wholly unbiblical. No sacred cows today, just straight shooting as we assess the fallout of the purpose driven drivel over the Spirit led church.

  • Headlines: All the King’s Horses, All the King’s Men

On this edition of SUFTT, Tim and Mary look at the fall of the Judeo/Christian worldview and what is replacing it. Having built the west with its era of personal freedoms and democracy, today’s world is looking far less like what we have known and much more like pending tyranny. Islam, Marxism, climate theology and more all point to a completely new world order fit for Antichrist. In fact, Romans 1 also points to this transition clearly. We talk about Britain’s massive fall; the differences in worldviews; euthanasia laws coming online in various places. In the children’s nursery rhyme, “Humpty Dumpty”, we get the pithy inference that some things simply cannot be reversed, cannot be put back together and reach the point of no return. In Christianity, this hints directly at a time of judgment – after which all things are set aright, made new. Come Lord Jesus.

  • Headlines: Postcards from Babel

Tim and Mary take on the news cycle with a bit of a twist: living large in the last days, Babylon style. We talk about the change of seasons and how that brings a reality to the times. The nature of worship today is certainly one of the changes we have waded through, but not just to add to the conversation about it, rather perhaps put a finger on the problem: subjectivity. In the pursuit of making sure the Holy Spirit shows up to our gatherings, we have all but stopped worshiping in Spirit AND in truth: with our minds and our hearts. We talk about the hymn culture that produced doctrine and how that leads us in worship. Then we look at being ambassadors for Christ, doing the King’s bidding in our service, not our own or even for our own earthly home. Finally, how some are paying the price for serving the King wherever they might find themselves. Hello from Babylon, wish you were here…but there’s no place like home.

  • Jeff Kinley: Anchoring a Generation Through Prophecy

Mary welcomes back Jeff Kinley to talk about bringing hope to our kids – through bible prophecy. Back in the 70s and 80s, the youth were clamoring for more information about Jesus’ return. It anchored us, gave us hope and caused us to look beyond the troubles and fleeting sense that all humans experience. Then what happened? Churches stopped teaching prophecy. The rapture became a comedic, scoffing byline – and with all that the sense of hope that our youth could rise above the floodwaters of a chaotic and dying world. Today we talk to Jeff about his Future Hope Student/Youth conferences. What are the goals and hopes of reaching out to our kids once again with the blessed hope? Why is it that so many told churches to stop talking about prophecy, and scaring the kids? We make the case that while sobering, “scary” should never be any reason to cut a big chunk of Scripture out of our kids’ lives – and our own. We also catch up with the Prophecy Pro’s Conferences. A thoughtful hour of hope and help.

  • Headlines: Be A Berean

On today’s edition of SUFTT, we review what it means to be a Berean, as outlined in Acts 17. When Paul was preaching Christ to the Thessalonian Jews, he also had the attention of the Greeks in attendance at the synagogue. Greeks often attended in those early days of the church because they weren’t interested in the rampant paganism, but opted instead to hear about the Jewish Messiah. While the Jews weren’t interested in having their traditional boat rocked, the Greeks of Berea were considered more noble because they were critical thinkers and sought to search the Old Testament daily to see if what Paul said was true, and many got saved. Today we use that context to talk about the ways the church must be Bereans as well – critical thinkers – when it comes to understanding and believing God about Israel and about prophecy. Churches that don’t teach prophecy, which permeates both old and New Testament, are not being Bereans. The challenge to filter everything we hear, every day by the Word of God may require time and diligence but it is of the utmost importance.

  • Headlines: Present Tense, Future Perfect

Today’s news cycle continues on its merry way in forcing politics and politicians to the forefront of everything, and what happens then of course is the truly significant stories just don’t get any airing. In our ongoing effort to do an end run around all the temporal things the media thinks we want to hear about, once again we bring things around to prophecy and eternal things. Today we look at Spielberg’s “Disclosure” film which opens this week. The real show for believers is what he is saying about the church and his attempts to cause us to “question our beliefs” about how many gods might be out there. Which would be laughable if he weren’t so sincerely arrogant about it. Should Christians bother to see it? That depends. We also look at Elon Musk’s opinion that technology is “Jesus level” stuff.  Meanwhile, down under, the believers are laying low. Is that an option, regardless of the personal cost? We also do a follow up on the Don Lemon invasion of that St. Paul church service. Double standards all around. Lots to talk about on this week’s headline episode of SUFTT.

  • Myra: A Voice for Freedom

On this edition of SUFTT, Mary welcomes Myra who tells us about her life in Pakistan as a Christian in a Muslim majority nation. Life in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has shaped her entire understanding of faith, courage, and truth. As a child, she didn’t fully grasp the weight of what it meant to live as a Christian in a place where expressing your beliefs could come with real consequences. The fear that accompanies the day to day life there as a believer, but also a woman, was ever present. But those experiences have formed an appreciation for freedom and strengthened her commitment to preserving our Christian values and keep this country great. Today she dedicates her days to standing firmly for truth and working tirelessly to ensure that the values we cherish remain protected for future generations. A faith-filled testimony from someone who understands what is at stake with the influx of Muslim culture to the West and how we can protect what we have as long as we can.

  • Replay – Dr. Tim Chaffey: Do Gentile Believers in Christ Become Jews?

Original airdate 4/10/26: Mary welcomes Dr. Tim Chaffey to discuss the controversial Hebrew Roots Movement. Far from simply trying to understand the Jewish roots of the Bible, this movement seeks to answer the question about what happens when Gentiles and Jews get saved: do Gentiles become Jews?  For centuries, the people of God were Jews, with the exception of some Gentiles who came to faith in the God of Israel. The early church consisted mostly of Jewish believers in Jesus, but when the gospel went to the Gentiles, there was a new dynamic that, unfortunately, even led some to believe that Christians were the new Israel and now received all the promises of God solely. This teaching continues today across the church spectrum. Why is there so much confusion about who is who, when the epistles clearly address these things head on? But with the HRM, there is even more confusion regarding the Mosaic Law, the feasts of Israel, who is a Jew, and what is Israel. Here to help us sort it all out is Dr. Chaffey, whose comprehensive article on the subject can be found here.

  • Mary Danielsen: The One Anothers

Social media is a fascinating environment. One in particular asks us “What’s on your mind?”, and then proceeds to make value judgments when we dare to tell. Be that as it may, many of us in the church have stuff on our mind too, especially when church doesn’t seem to match up with the biblical parameters and suggestions/commands. Then after mulling that for a bit, we tend to resign ourselves to the fact that people have changed, the culture has changed too much to expect church not to have. But wait, God never changes. The culture will always change. Does that give us the right to change the church? To bring the culture inside to testify of the popular way? Why no, it doesn’t. So in observing something hopefully all believers do every Sunday morning, how can we not have questions and observations? Why is this the object of discussion among believers and yet nothing ever changes? Can we entertain (oops wrong word maybe) the idea that an Acts church is still an option? Today Mary looks at all the ways that believers have handed their fellowships over to corporations and methods and suggests one way that might reverse the trends.

  • Replay – Paul Scharf: The People of the Book – Loving What God Loves

Originally aired 2/14/25: Mary welcomes back Paul Scharf of Friends of Israel Ministry, an organization with over 87 years of support for Israel. On this Valentine’s Day, we talk about loving the things God loves with an everlasting love: Israel. What are some of the Scriptural points that tell us the what and why of God’s care for Israel? Do we ever stop to realize all the ways God has blessed all nations through them, these “People of the Book”? Why does this even matter, and why do many churches not share God’s heart for her, even though as new creatures we should have that love for Israel? We talk about dispensationalism, Gaza, Trump, hostages, Zionism, and more.  Paul is a church ministries representative for Friends of Israel based in Columbus, WI, and serving in the Midwest. He speaks regularly about Israel, Bible prophecy and many other topics in churches and Bible conferences all across the Midwest and around the country.
