  • Guests: Marla Varner, Lindsey Neill, Cindy Needham, and Richy Lainson

    Marla Varner of Penny Lane Quilts creates exciting quilts in modern improvisational style. But she didn’t start that way. Marla began with traditional quilts and I’m excited to hear about her journey to a different style of making.

    ================
    I first saw Lindsey Neill’s Pen and Paper quilts when there were a lot of adorable snail blocks showing up in my instagram feed. Lindsey creates whimsical modern and minimalist quilts. Let’s hear how she comes up with her creations and what might be around the corner for us
    ================
    Cindy Needham tag line on her about page is ‘Quilting Changed My Life’, I feel the same way. She is an avid quilter that, like me, quit her day job to create a business. She travels to teach and has a class on Craftsy. I’m very interested in her work on linen, how cool is that?

  • Guests: Susan Knapp, Shannon Brinkley, and Krista Hennebury

    I love the projects from Susan Knapp of the Quilt Branch, they are fun and doable. You may know her from signature project ‘Six Halves Make a Whole, where each project starts from 6 half-yard cuts of fabric’. We are going to get some great tips about embracing unique shapes and getting used to a specialty rulers.

    -------------
    I love how Shannon Brinkley uses scraps to applique. Use applies this approach to very fresh designs and has a whole book of projects with it. Shannon shares tips making scrappy applique work and will tell us about her first fabric line with Andover called Mosaic.. which seems like a fitting name!
    Shannon has some fantastic tips for doing the pointy edges with satin stitch on her projects, well worth listening!
    -------------
    Teacher, author and amazing quilt maker, Krista Hennebury joins me again so we can talk about taking quilting on the road! She has attended big and small shows across the world, plus taught.. it's fun to hear about her travels. And Krista is one of the designers of our Splendid Sampler II project!

    I’m so intrigued by Ashley Nickels quilts, they have this unique painting on them and then she adds a wonderful layer of quilting. When I see pieces like this my curiosity has me typing an invite to the maker to come on the show and tell me about their work. And I'm super excited that she is also a writer and has a love of the story.

    ===========
    Karen Overton is a long time maker writing about her work at The Quilt Rambler. She loves to teach and has a great tips for us today about how to think about our quilting while we are doing the patchwork.
    =============

  • Guests: Kathy Shaw, Heidi Parkes, Leslie Jenison, and Lissa Alexander

    I’m always attracted to beautiful embroidery work. When I saw Kathy Shaw’s books and her work I had to learn more! If you were curious about crazy quilts and stitches, you’ll love this chat!

    ------------
    Heidi Parkes tagline is ‘Artist - Quilts - Mending ‘ and I am intrigued by that. Quilts and Mending on the same line? Heidi will change your mind on what that means.
    ----------------
    Leslie Jenison and I have been friends a long time, it might have started when we both did a ‘use this Nancy Drew Fabric’ challenge! She is an award winner quilter, fabric designer, and extremely amazing quiltmaker. Leslie and I chatted about how to stay healthy so we can quilt a very long time.
    ------------------
    Lissa Alexander's newest book is all about scraps and it's fantastic! She is also the director of Marketing for Moda Fabrics, which means she is the organizer of getting all the amazing things about Moda out for us to learn. I've worked with Lissa since the first year I went into business. I'm also lucky enough to have gotten a bit of time to have her tell us about the new Color Cuts that Moda is doing!
