A few days ago, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri called for his rejection of the electoral college results which permitted victory to Joe Biden. As of now, Joe Biden is the president-elect, however, due to uncommon election practices in multiple states, some people are skeptical of its legitimacy.

Senator Josh Hawley has been in the news lately because he was the first senator to announce his rejection of the electorate vote and he has proclaimed his refusal to vote in favor of the results. He tweeted out on December 30th, “millions of voters concerned about election integrity deserve to be heard. I will object on January 6 on their behalf.”

What does this entail for January 6th? How does Congress process this objection? What does it mean for American democracy?

Our story today begins with the Comprehensive Investment Agreement signed between the European Union and the People’s Republic of China. European leaders and China’s President, Xi Jinping agreement “on an investment deal between the European Union and China despite a request for talks on the issue by the incoming -administration of President-elect Joe Biden,” according to NPR. It concludes negotiations over the deal, which removes a number of barriers to European companies' investment in China. By removing these barriers, it will increase trade between both parties; it gives a greater incentive for businesses to reach out to markets abroad.
