Do Chicago’s “cleaning” of homeless encampments protect the health and safety of residents? Or do they perpetuate the cycle of homelessness?

After the city conducted a cleaning that temporarily removed unhoused people from an encampment in Avondale, community members and local leaders are calling on city leaders to do more for Chicagoans experiencing homelessness.

We check in with 35th ward alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, who is urging the mayor and other city officials to invest in permanent housing for unhoused people.
